What IT equipment will I need?
We suggest you use a latop or computer with Windows 11 so you can access our commonly used systems and use specialist engineering systems for your studies. Your device should also have a microphone and webcam to interact with staff and students during support sessions and tutorials. You will need a fast and stable internet connection to access learning materials and participate in live sessions.
Use of an Apple Mac or a Google Chromebook is possible, but you will experience more restrictions when accessing software, as not all software runs on these operating systems. If you choose to use a Mac or Chromebook, you will have to access some software using a Virtual Desktop.
You do not need to purchase any software. Microsoft 365 is available free of charge to all students, and specialist software is available via our Engineering Virtual Desktop.
All students (UK and international) who might struggle with financing IT equipment can apply for the Hardship Fund.
