Stephen Meek

Director 

Stephen spent 25 years working in the UK as a civil servant, including board level posts in two government departments. 

He has led the Institute since its creation in 2018 and oversees both its public engagement and policy impact work.  He has particular expertise in the policy making process and how to influence it.

Susan Anderson2

 

Susan Anderson

Academic Lead for Public Engagement

Susan is a Professor of Anatomy and Pathology in the School of Life Sciences. She has been involved in public engagement and outreach for the University, Ignite Futures and the Royal Microscopical Society. She is the inaugural chair of Nottingham's annual science festival - Festival of Science and Curiosity.

Susan manages the public engagement team, oversees our public engagement stategy and policies, and leads our reward and recognition initiatives.

Amanda Chukwudozie

Programme and Project Manager (Policy)

Amanda joined the Institute in 2021, following a role in policy and advocacy at the African Union. She brings expertise in engaging policy audiences, especially in Africa, and provides advice to researchers looking to achieve policy impact with their work.

She oversees the Institute's communications, and manages our social media and blogs to bring our work closer to our audiences. She leads aspects of our training programme, manages our EDI workstream and runs a portfolio of events including the Institute awards.

Kat Hart

CAPE Project Co-Ordinator

Following completion of the Ambitious Futures Management and Leadership for Higher Education Programme, Kat joined the team and the CAPE project in March 2021. 

Kat is responsible for coordinating CAPE-related activities and initatives across the University of Nottingham. She also works closely with the other CAPE coordinators, the CAPE consortium and policy partners as part of the wider mission to understand 'what works' in academic-policy engagement. She offers advice to those seeking to engage with CAPE activity in particular.

Amy Hawksworth

Programme and Public Engagement Manager (Public Engagment)

Amy started her career in the travel industry, accompanying school and youth groups aborad and acting as their tour rep and interpreter. She then moved on to work within higher education in marketing, outreach and social mobility.

She oversees the Institute's marketing strategies and the public engagement staff training offer. She manages a portfolio of events and festivals.

Charlotte Lee

Operations and Project Officer

Charlotte joined the team in 2018 after working in the Registrar's Office. She works with both the public engagement and policy impact teams.

Charlotte manages operations within the team and supports major initiatives. She leads on our annual conference and maintains oversight of institute workplans and monitoring progress.

Maria Richards

Head of Public Programmes

Following a career in museums and heritage Maria joined the team in 2020. She specialises in planning for public engagement, co-production methods and understanding diverse audience needs.

Maria runs our public engagement small grants scheme and offers advice to those looking to embed public engagement activities in external funding bids. She project manages our families workstream, oversees a portfolio of projects and contributes to our civic initiatives.

Ben Sherwood

Adminstrative Assistant

Ben joined the team in 2020 as an administrative assistant, assisting with the day-to-day running of the Institute. 

Ben has an active career as an actor and supports with a variety of creatve engagement projects, taking the lead on the Institute's podcast, Knowledge, Engaged.

Chris Sims

Deputy Director

Chris joined the team in 2018 as Head of Policy Impact. He previously spent nine years in the UK Diplomatic Service before working in a variety of policy roles in the voluntary sector.

Chris oversees the Institute's work to support academics to achieve policy impact, and supports Stephen on the Institute's strategy, communications and stakeholder engagement.
