Triathlon BUCS gold medal for Nottingham student
Travelling to Tavistock on the 4th May, University of Nottingham student Oliver Conway improved on his second place at last year's event to claim gold at the 2025 BUCS (British Universities and Colleges Sport) Sprint Triathlon, with a number of his team mates also delivering high level performances to win medals.

I'm really happy to come away with the win today on a tough course - plenty of hills on both the bike and the run made it a real test from start to finish.

The day of competition saw Nottingham triathletes compete in both the Sprint Triathlon and the Mixed Team Relay event. The Sprint Triathlon consisted a 400m pool swim, an 18km bike section, and a 5km run, whilst the Relay involved a 150m pool swim, 6.5km bike section, and a 1.7km run per team member.
Having taken silver in the Sprint 12 months ago, Nottingham's Oliver Conway came into the event full of confidence having won gold at BUCS Duathlon in November, and delivered a stellar performance to claim his second gold medal of the year and become national champion.
Oliver reflected on his performance by saying "I'm really happy to come away with the win today on a tough course - plenty of hills on both the bike and the run made it a real test from start to finish. I felt in control on the bike and managed to get a small gap, which just about held through the final run. It was close racing all the way, so I had to stay fully focused right to the end. It’s always a bit of a question mark coming into the early races, so to put together a decent performance at this stage is encouraging. Mostly, it’s just a good reminder that the work over the winter is paying off. Looking forward to building on this and seeing where things go over the next few races."
Conway would also add to his medal haul by winning silver in the Open Team category, standing on the podium alongside team mates Oliver Mills and Oliver Hitchcock, and also the Mixed Team category with Imogen Sutton and Oliver Mills delivering medal-securing performances.
Nottingham athletes also put in exceptional effort in the women's individual and team events as Isabelle Price finished in the top five in the Women's Sprint Triathlon, whilst the team of Isabelle Price, Imogen Sutton, and Maddie Hughes would narrowly miss out on a medal finishing fifth in the Women's Team event.
Congratulations to everyone involved in our BUCS Triathlon success, and we now look ahead to the BUCS Standard Distance Triathlon on the 21st June where we wish all of our competing athletes the very best of luck.
