Are you experiencing difficulties beyond your control affecting your ability to complete your assessments

In the unfortunate event that you experience exceptional and unforeseen difficulties beyond your control, which affect your ability to complete your assessments (such as an illness), then the University’s extenuating circumstances procedure may be of assistance.

Please note that applications for extenuating circumstances should be submitted within 7 days of the affected examination.

It is recommended that you read the procedure and information on the SU website before completing a claim.

It is important that you notify Students Services via the Contact Us webpage immediately of any change in circumstances which either affect your ability to study or take assessments.

Any matters which could have been raised with Student Services, but were not (without good reason) raised before the Board of Examiners meet to make a progression/award decisions after assessments, will not be considered in the event of an Academic Appeal.

Extenuating circumstances can be submitted via the Extenuating Circumstances claim via the Student Enquiry Centre. If you are unexpectedly unwell during an examination you must inform an invigilator immediately.

If you are unexpectedly unwell and can’t attend your examination, you must inform Student Services via the Contact us webpage.

Raise an Extenuating Circumstances claim via the Student Enquiry Centre
