Referral information
The University of Nottingham Counselling Service is part of a network of student wellbeing services. It is a referral only service, which means you'll first need to contact one of our student support teams. They'll listen to what you share with them and help guide you to the right service - whether that's counselling or something else too. They are experienced in offering customised help and signposting to the most appropriate support.
This approach helps us to make sure you get the support that's right for you, whilst also managing demand across the services.
You can reach out to the following teams for a referral to counselling:
- Support & Wellbeing Team – Based in your school, they offer help with a range of wellbeing issues. You can book an appointment via the Student Life app
- Residential Experience / Res X – For students living in halls of residence and university managed accommodation. You can contact the team by phone or email for support on a range of issues.
- Disability Team – For students already registered with Disability Support services. The Disability Team provide support to disabled students. Use their ‘contact us’ page to make an appointment.
- Report and Support Team –The University does not tolerate bullying, harassment, victimisation, hate or sexual misconduct. If you, or someone you know, has experienced or witnessed an incident like this, you can contact the Report and Support Team to share information anonymously or provide contact details and they will offer support and advice.
Our student support teams are here to help and have a deep understanding of the full range of support options available. You can share as much or as little as you're comfortable with - just let them know if you are looking for a referral to counselling. They'll ask for a brief overview of your situation to make the referral, but you don't need to go into detail unless you want to.
