Triangle

We want you to get the most out of your time at university, and attending your scheduled teaching sessions is the first step to succeeding with your studies.

To support you in completing your studies, we have introduced the engagement and attendance system called SEAtS Mobile. SEAtS Mobile allows you to register your attendance at centrally timetabled teaching activities.

When you attend a session on your timetable, you’ll need to register your attendance through the SEAtS Mobile app. The app also registers your engagement with Moodle and Echo.

The engagement system is intended as a welfare resource. If we notice you haven’t engaged with your studies for a significant period of time, a member of the Support and Wellbeing team will be in touch with an offer of support. If you are on a sponsored student visa a version of the engagement information will also be used to support the monitoring requirements of UK Visas and Immigration.

Download the app

To use the SEAtS Mobile system, you will need to download the app. It’s available for iOS and Android devices.

Download the app now so you’re ready to use it when your classes begin.

Download for iOS 9 or later

Download for Android 4.1 or later

Once you’ve downloaded the app, you can log in using your university email (username@nottingham.ac.uk) and password.

You will also be able to access the SEAtS Mobile app from the SEAtS Mobile tile in the MyNottingham app.

How do I use SEAtS Mobile to check in?

For teaching activities on campus, register your attendance on the SEAtS Mobile app using the following steps:

  1. Ensure the calendar icon has been selected which will lead you to ‘Current events’
  1. Tap ‘Check in’
  1. Your camera will open in the scanning viewfinder
  1. Scan the QR code which your lecturer will display on the screen. If your phone is unable to scan the QR code, don’t worry; your lecturer will provide you with a one-time check-in code instead.

Guidance on using SEAtS Mobile

I am having issues scanning the QR code/with the app

If you are having issues with scanning the QR code, please ask the teaching staff to display the numerical code which will record your attendance.

If you are continually unable to scan the QR/numerical codes displayed, please look at the SEAtS Mobile - troubleshooting and quick fixes guide. If you are still having trouble recording your attendance please, Ask a Question on the Student Enquiry Centre and we will investigate this and advise you when this has been resolved.

How will my engagement data be used and what is collected?

Engagement data can help staff identify which students are finding university life difficult before it is too late.

The data collected is compiled about face-to-face timetabled sessions, Moodle use and Echo360. If you wish to read more about the data we collect, please read our Student Engagement Data Use Policy.

Often one of the first signs of low mood is a lack of motivation, so a drop in engagement can be an indication that a student needs support. Attendance at teaching sessions and time spent in the virtual learning environment can be valuable insights into student wellbeing and how students are coping with their studies. This data will enable us to more easily identify possible engagement issues so that support can be offered in a more timely, pro-active way.

Where a student is studying under a sponsored Student Visa engagement data will be used as part of the University’s statutory monitoring of attendance and engagement, as required by UK Visa and Immigration.

Attendance data will also be used to help us maintain accurate records of active students in case an assumed attendance withdrawal process is required. The data will be reviewed once a term for this purpose.

For more information, please read our Student Engagement and Attendance Policy and our Privacy Policy.

How can I register my attendance if I forget to/could not scan?

If you forget to scan your attendance, you may wish to speak to your lecturer to see if they are able to add you manually.

However, please note that SEAtS Mobile is primarily designed as a wellbeing tool in order for us to support you in completing your studies. If the occasional session isn’t recorded, please be assured that this won’t impact you negatively.

However, if you continuously miss taught sessions/don't check in, we would then contact you to see if you require any further support.
