The University of Nottingham awards a number of Honorary Degrees each year at graduation ceremonies both in the UK and at our campuses in China and Malaysia. The awards are to recognise outstanding contribution, success and distinction.
Nominations for Honorary Degrees may be made by any member of staff or members of the public at any time of year and will be considered at the next meeting of the Honorary Degrees Committee.
The Committee meets in the Autumn and Spring of each session. The terms of reference for the Committee can be found here.
The guidance on honorary degrees sets out some criteria to be considered when making a nomination.
Members of the Committee may have little or no prior knowledge of individuals who are proposed and, in order to assist their deliberations, it is important to receive relevant details of the nominee. Therefore basic information about the nominee and their suitability for an award should be provided on a nomination form. This will of great assistance to the Committee in deciding upon appropriate recipients.
A completed nomination form is required and this should be sent by email to firstname.lastname@example.org or by post to The Registrar, Trent Building, The University of Nottingham, University Park, Nottingham, NG7 2RD.
Feedback on Nominations
Unfortunately it is not normally possible for the Committee to provide feedback on the progress of particular nominations but this can be arranged if specifically required.
The recipient should be unaware of the proposal. The conferment will not be made public until the Council and Senate of the University of Nottingham have been informed and that the utmost confidentiality should be maintained until that point.
