Nursing and NHS Funded Courses

The undergraduate courses listed below are funded by the NHS. The student funding for these courses is different to undergraduate courses funded by Student Finance, one of the main differences being that the student has no, or limited, tuition fee liability.  The NHS pays in most cases! 

Income assessed bursaries and non-income assessed grants are offered depending on the course, and for some courses a non-income assessed reduced rate student loan from Student Finance is also offered.

Nursing and Midwifery courses 

BSc Nursing

Funding for 2012:

  • A £1,000 grant from the NHS
  • An income assessed Bursary from the NHS
  • A non income assessed reduced rate loan from Student Finance
  • NHS pays tuition fees 
  • Supplementary allowances depending on personal circumstances in all years
 

 

Master of Nursing Science

Funding for 2012:

  • A £1,000 grant from the NHS
  • An income assessed Bursary from the NHS
  • A non income assessed reduced rate loan from Student Finance
  • NHS pays tuition fees 
  • Supplementary allowances depending on personal circumstances in all years
 

 

Degree year Dip/BSc Nursing

Funding for 2012: 

    • Year 3 an income assessed Bursary from the NHS and a non-income assessed reduced rate student loan from Student Finance.
    • Supplementary allowances depending on personal circumstances in all years
    • NHS pays tuition fees

    From September 2012 this Diploma/Degree option will no longer be offered.  See BSc Nursing above

 

 

BMid - Midwifery

Funding for 2012:

  • A £1,000 grant from the NHS
  • An income assessed Bursary from the NHS
  • A non income assessed reduced rate loan from Student Finance
  • NHS pays tuition fees
  • Supplementary allowances depending on personal circumstances in all years
 

 

GEN - Graduate Entry Nursing

Other NHS funded courses

Physiotherapy

Funding for 2012:

  • A £1,000 grant from the NHS
  • An income assessed Bursary from the NHS
  • A non income assessed reduced rate loan from Student Finance
  • NHS pays tuition fees

Master of Nutrition (Dietetics)

Funding for 2012:

  • A £1,000 grant from the NHS
  • An income assessed Bursary from the NHS
  • A non income assessed reduced rate loan from Student Finance
  • NHS pays tuition fees 
  • Supplementary allowances depending on personal circumstances in all years
 

 

5th Year Medicine

The five year Medical Course is funded differently in the fifth and final year, to years one to four. In the fifth year the NHS pay tuition fees and students are offered:

  • An income assessed Bursary from the NHS
  • Supplementary allowances depending on personal circumstance
  • A non-income assessed reduced rate loan from Student Finance
  • NHS pays tuition fees for Year 5 only

Graduate Entry Medicine (GEM)

Social Work BA

Social Work students may receive a non-income assessed Bursary from the NHS in Years 2 & 3, however the NHS does NOT pay the tuition fees for this course.

Students can also apply for the funding package from Student Finance, including a tuition fee loan, grant and maintenance loan.
