Webinar: African universities as development agents – the role of regional cooperation

In this webinar, Olusola Oyewole (President of the African Association of Universities, AAU) will talk to the “three missions” of African universities and their role as agents of development, and the role of an organization such as the AAU in promoting regional cooperation and integration, as well as in supporting universities with their developmental agendas.

Olusola will trace the evolution of the relationship between the AAU, the AU and the Pan African University, as well as offer an analysis of different national and international perspectives on HE policy for development.

Revival and Refocusing of Security Departments in African Universities and Colleges in the 21st Century

As part of the AAU’s commitment to delivering value to its members and advancing higher education in Africa, a strategic workshop is being organised under the theme, “Revival and Refocusing of Security Departments in African Universities and Colleges in the 21st Century”. This initiative aligns with AAU's mission to strengthen the capacity of leaders within Africa’s higher education community.

This workshop seeks to address safety and security challenges faced by African Higher education institutions by equipping institutions with the tools and strategies needed to safeguard students, staff, and assets effectively. The workshop is designed for key decision-makers and stakeholders, including Vice Chancellors, Presidents, Rectors, Directors, Registrars, Campus Security and Safety Officers, and other Professionals responsible for formulating and implementing security policies.

IARSLCE International Webinar

The IARSLCE committee is embarking on an international agenda setting exercise to articulate the key issues, research questions, methodological approaches, research challenges that would shape the service learning and community engagement field, and advance knowledge across the educational spectrum and across national, cultural, and disciplinary contexts.

If you are a scholar, a postgraduate student, a practitioner in the field, a university official involved in work of this nature, a representative of a community-based or civil society organisation involved in research that in your view overlaps with some of the work described, then Professor Darren Lortan (a professor of mathematics at the Durban University of Technology, South Africa) is inviting you under the auspices of IARSLCE (International Association for Research on Service Learning and Community Engagement) to participate in this international research agenda setting exercise.

The Association of African Universities Invites Stakeholders to Participate in a Capacity Building Workshop on - Fostering International Partnerships in Higher Education Institutions in Africa, 24 to 26 September 2024, Harare, Zimbabwe.

As part of the numerous benefits offered by the Association of African Universities (AAU) to its members, and in line with strengthening the capacity of leaders in Africa’s higher education ecosystem, the AAU is organising a workshop for senior officers in African Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) concerned with strengthening partnerships for their institutions, including those from the International Offices and Partnership Units.

Artificial Intelligence, Data Protection and 21st Century Higher Education Institutions in Africa

The Strengthening the Europe-Africa Digital Ecosystem through Increased Research and Innovation Cooperation (SEADE) Project announces a Call for Submission of Success Stories. The SEADE project is a two-year initiative funded by the European Union with the aim of deepening and broadening digital cooperation between Europe and Africa, and to address the gaps in the research value chain.

The SEADE Project invites you to submit success stories recorded under your past projects and initiatives implemented within the research and innovation (R&I) sector. Participating in this initiative will not only showcase your accomplishments but also inspire collaboration and facilitate the exchange of valuable insights and lessons learned.

African Innovation Competition "StarTech Africa"

Moulay Ismaïl University, Morocco, is organising the 4th edition of the African Innovation Competition "StarTech Africa" ​​under the theme, "Innovation in Africa in the 21st century". This special edition is being organised under the aegis of the Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation, Morocco in partnership with several African universities and higher education institutions across the continent.

Invitations are invited from innovative project leaders (engineering students, students from other disciplines, PhD students or young researchers) from Moroccan and other African institutions, with innovative projects to showcase.

Call for Abstracts for the 2nd Pan African Conference on CO2 Compensation

The 2nd Pan African Conference on CO2 Compensation – 2GAToCCC slated for 25 to 27 September is calling for submission of abstracts. The Carnegie African Diaspora Fellowship Program

Deadline for Project Requests and Scholar Applications for diaspora scholars: Wednesday 18 September 2024

The Carnegie African Diaspora Fellowship Program (CADFP) is accepting Project Requests from African host universities and Scholar Applications from qualified African academics in the diaspora in the United States and Canada.

The CADFP is a scholar exchange program for African higher education institutions to host a diaspora scholar for 14 to 90 days for projects in curriculum co-development, collaborative research and graduate student teaching and mentoring. The CADFP is a two-sided application: a project request submitted by the African institution and a scholar application submitted by the diaspora scholar.

Launch of new regional office

The new European Regional Office for the Association of African Universities was officially launched at the University of Nottingham on Wednesday 6 March 2024.

The ceremony was led by the University of Nottingham's Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shearer West, the President of the AAU, Professor Bakri Osman Saeed, and Secretary-General of the AAU, Professor Olusola Bandele Oyewole.
