This is the place where communities join the energy revolution and the environment is protected for future generations.
More than half the world’s population live in cities. As populations grow, water scarcity and pollution increases. We encroach on wetlands - releasing their carbon emissions - to meet our growing demand for housing but simultaneously need to decarbonise our built environment.
The UN Sustainable Development Goals promote resilient cities, sustainable water management, and the protection and restoration of wetlands. Our research will help in addressing these challenges.
We’re investigating how to integrate energy efficient technologies into new and existing housing stock, recoup pollutants from water to create valuable products, manage European peatlands to reduce their carbon emissions and much more.
