Philosophy can be transformative. You can do it for its own sake as well as for its ability to shape lives, institutions, and society. Our modules give you the option to explore many aspects of philosophy from its foundations in Ancient Greece to how it helps us understand events taking place across the world today.
Indicative modules
Gender, Justice and Society
What is institutional racism? Are borders unjust? These are just two of the questions we’ll consider in this module. We'll take a critical look at some of the answers given by thinkers across the political spectrum and we'll also look at some of the political contexts in which these questions have arisen. This is feminist, social and political philosophy.
Introduction to Philosophical Traditions
This module delves into how different cultures and traditions tackle philosophical problems and themes. You’ll explore a variety of topics, which may change each year, such as the nature of reality, human flourishing, the environment, beauty, tradition, wisdom, optimism, religion, mind and reason, social order, and principles for co-existence.
Religion, Media and Ethics
This module will explore how the media portrays religion, and ask why stereotypes persist, how the media challenges religion, and provokes new religious creativity, and asking what the big ideas of religious ethics could teach us about how to use media more wisely.
