Notifying the graduation team

If you wish to graduate in absentia, that is to receive your award but not attend the ceremony, you should notify us of this intention when you register. If you do not inform us of this we will not post your certificate out to you following the ceremony.

If you choose to graduate in absentia it is not possible for you to then attend a future graduation ceremony.

Graduating in absentia

Receiving your certificate

All graduates who advise us that they will graduate in absentia will have their certificate automatically posted out to them following the ceremonies. Certificates will be sent out 6-8 weeks following the ceremonies, provided that you have informated the graduation team that you are not attending. Those students who did not respond to the graduation invitation will need to email to receive their certificate.

If you would prefer to collect your certificate in person rather than wait for it to be posted, you, or a nominated person, can arrange to collect your certificate from the Service Development, E Floor, Portland Building on University Park. Collection is by appointment only and should be arranged with the Graduation Certificate team in early December for collection in the days following the ceremonies.

Please note that it is not possible under any circumstances to receive your certificate prior to the graduation ceremony or for someone else to collect your certificate at the ceremony.

Formal Photography

There will be an opportunity for any students graduating in absentia to have an official graduation photograph taken before the day. This will take place on 30 October 2017 in the SU Studio, Portland Building, University Park from 10am to 4pm.

To book a time slot for the photography day, please visit the Online Store

Students can turn up on the day, however, please note that in this case that priority will be given to those who have booked and that we will not be able to guarantee you can be photographed in the correct hood for your award.

Purchase of photographs is not obligatory. You will be given instant proofs of your photographs on the day and will be able to order these either on the day or afterwards via or by order form.

There are a number of packages available to choose from on the Tempest website at, which start from £27 for a mounted 8” x 6” or 10” x 8” photograph.

Any questions regarding the photography day should be directed to and any questions regarding photography packages should be directed to
