We want you to see the difference your voice makes. When you give us feedback, we will try our best to ensure it turns into meaningful change.

Here are some recent changes made as a result of your feedback.

Modernising student spaces:

    • We’ve launched a new Global Exchange Lounge at Jubilee Campus, a student-first space aiming to connect cultures, build community and bring students together from all backgrounds
    • We refurbished and modernised the Computer Sciences atrium and ground floor to create teaching and social spaces, including individual or group study spaces. 
    • We also refurbished the Business School North atrium with new study spaces designed around your needs. 
    • We’ve created a vibrant  new pop-up student space in Portland Building for you to relax, meet others and take a break.
    • We’ve created new all year-round quiet study spaces and dedicated exam spaces in Trent Building, for students with reasonable adjustments. 
    • New decking has been laid on the Portland Studio external terrace, a great outside space when using Mooch and the Studio 

Supporting every student:

  • We’ve introduced monthly Peer Support Sessions for mature students – an open space for students to talk and support each other. 
  • Our new Black Students Group, facilitated by specialist Black counsellors, provides a supportive peer network for Black students. 
  • We’ve introduced Humanist, Buddhist and Sikh Chaplains, as well as larger premises for Jewish Chaplaincy on campus and a Muslim Chaplain at Sutton Bonington.
  • We’ve rolled out anti-racism training, to educate staff on being anti-racist and knowledgeable on this topic. 
  • We've added additional events during Welcome Week and the first few weeks of term, including more tours of Nottingham city centre and information sessions for international students.
 

 Listening to your feedback:

  • You asked for more academic representation, so the Students' Union initiated a Democracy Review in 2024, for you to share what you want your representation system to look like.
  • UoNSU has introduced termly Academic and Community Forums with specific topics for you to feedback on - or you can submit your own!

Keeping you safe:

  • We secured a police grant to install SOS points on Ilkeston Road and Midland Way, to enhance student safety.
  • We've invested £65,000 per academic year to fund police overtime in Lenton, to enhance student safety.
  • We've worked with the university Policing Team with an Education, Not Enforcement approach, aiming to build trust with the student community.
 

Streamlining student admin:

  • We’ve introduced self-certification for Extenuating Circumstances claims relating to coursework, if you have an unexpected illness - so you can focus on getting well. 
  • We've improved our Student Services webpages to make them easier to navigate and find the information you need quicker.
  • We've reduced the amount of evidence needed to apply for financial support, and simplified the process.
  • We've set a standard to respond to 90% of enquiries through the Student Enquiry Centre within two working days, so you get the answers you need quicker.
  • We've arranged graduation gowning events in advance of ceremonies, so you can try on your gown in advance, plus added hood photos and explanations to our website.

Advancing your career ambitions:

  • We launched CareerSet, an online, AI driven CV and cover letter checking tool, aiming to help ensure your CV gets through employer AI application checking filters.
  • We've streamlined our Careers drop-in sessions across our faculties, and introduced weekly drop-in sessions at four key locations across campus, so you can easily find sessions with careers advisers.
  • Our MyCareer platform promotes volunteering opportunities, and we run regular Volunteering Fairs, so you can find out more about volunteering opportunities.
  • We’ve introduced a broader range of volunteering opportunities, including micro-volunteering for short periods of time, so you can fit it in around your studies and commitments. 
 

Making campus feel like home:

  • We’ve added more self-catered accommodation and more affordable accommodation options on Jubilee and University Park campuses.
  • We’ve added air fryers and rice cookers at the new self-catered accommodation on Jubilee and University Park campuses.
  • ResX provide a single point of contact to support Care Leavers or those who are estranged to transition into university life, plus activities such as wellbeing walks and bowling.
  • We’ve introduced the 'Live like a Local' programme to help you learn to navigate local transport, and highlights events and facilities in town that you may not access otherwise. These have included Nottingham Castle, National Justice Museum, Wollaton Hall and more, all offered at just the cost of transport.
  • We introduced a community swap shop, where students and residents can donate any unwanted household items and swap them for something new - helping students save month and reducing the number of items heading to landfill.

Enhancing our Libraries:

  • We’ve added docking stations to library PCs in George Green and Greenfield Medical libraries, so it's even easier to charge your laptops and connect them to the monitors for focused work
  • We upgraded the online library study space booking system, Click and Study  to improve accessibility and make it easier to find a study space
  • We extended the 24-hour opening dates for 2024/25 at James Cameron-Gifford Library  to provide more space during exams and assessment periods
 

More varied and inclusive Sport provision:

  • We've created a student opportunities fund together with the Students' Union, to help cover the c:ost of memberships and taking part in activities. We’ve supported 200 students so far through this fund (2025)!
  • We've supported inclusive fitness sessions, continued our 50% discount for Disability Sport membership, and introduced low sensory gym time and classes.
  • We've established the Black Sport Collective, to bring together and support Black students interested in sport and fitness at all levels, aiming to inspire and motivate you to excel.

  • We’ve introduced Hyrox and Reformer Pilates classes in our gyms.
  • We’ve added new equipment to our gym spaces and made improvements to our sports pitches with new drainage and floodlights. 

Supporting Postgraduate taught (PGT) students:

  • The Graduation team are working to arrange inter-ceremonies so that postgraduate students can have their degrees conferred outside of the major graduation ceremonies in July and December. This will allow more flexibility for those needing proof of their course to secure a job.
  • We've updated the Quality Manual with regulation and guidance to support a minimum expectated level of supervision for students completing a research project, otherwise known as a Masters Project, during the summer.
 

Levelling up our tech offer:

  • We’ve launched a ‘Book a space’ tile on the MyNottingham app, so you can easily book a variety of different spaces across the university. 

Serving up tasty treats:

  • We’ve expanded our vegetarian and plant-based options, as well as introduced healthier and higher-protein options on our menus. 
  • We launched a new Mian Tang build-your-own noodle bar and Grill ‘n’ Char live cooking stations.
