Wyn has held an Honorary Professor role at the University of Nottingham since 2024. By background, he is an academic agricultural economist and has spent much of his research career examining food markets, food chain dynamics and volatility in global commodity markets. His most recent focus has been on food price inflation in the UK and the impact of climate change on food prices. He has published widely in academic journals and through other channels too, including two textbooks on the food industry with Dr John Strak.
He has undertaken a number of consultancy activities with amongst others MAFF, Defra, the Commonwealth Secretariat, and the Technology Foresight Panel of the Office for Science and Technology. Recent outputs included a report for the Economics and Climate Intelligence Unit (ECIU) on climate change, fossil fuels and food prices. Alongside this work, Wyn has given evidence to a House of Lords panel on food price volatility and a round table under the auspices of the Rowntree foundation and has made a number of media appearances outlining issues relating to the food industry in general and food price volatility specifically.
Wyn has also had a long career in leading learning and teaching matters at a senior level in universities. Notably he was Vice President for Education at the university of Sheffield, having previously been Associate Pro-Vice Chancellor for Learning and Teaching at the University of Nottingham. Most recently he served as interim Pro-Vice Chancellor for Education and Student Experience at Royal Holloway University of London. He is a Principle Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and continues to teach.
