University of Nottingham Sport has been shortlisted for three prestigious accolades at the 2025 College & University Business Officers (CUBO) Awards, recognising our continued excellence, creativity, and leadership in university sport and wellbeing.
The CUBO Awards represent the highest standards of excellence in campus services, recognising the individuals and teams whose dedication, creativity, innovation and leadership enhance the campus experience for students, staff and visitors across the UK and Ireland.
We are proud to be finalists in the following categories:
-
Excellence in Student Sporting Experience
-
Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Spotlight Award
-
Creativity in Conferencing, Events and Hospitality
In the Excellence in Student Sporting Experience category, we showcased our sector-leading impact on student wellbeing and engagement. Highlights included our pioneering Impact of Sport survey, which revealed that students involved in sport reported higher wellbeing and lower anxiety. Through inclusive programming and innovative campaigns, we have grown student sport and fitness membership to 13,500 - more than any other UK university. Our new live streaming platform, uonsport.tv, has amassed over 8,000 subscribers and streamed 240 games, increasing access and visibility for our high-performance teams.
For the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Spotlight Award, we were recognised for our impactful work with underrepresented groups, including our Black Sport Collective, tailored disability sport provision, and growing LGBTQIA+ inclusivity.
Our efforts have led to a 63% increase in engagement from Black students, with 85% reporting a stronger sense of belonging. We've also reached 45% of all disabled students through bespoke initiatives, while new LGBTQIA+ activations have improved visibility and accessibility across campus sport.
In the Creativity in Conferencing, Events and Hospitality category, our innovative hosting of the 2024 Touch World Cup has redefined our approach to event delivery, hospitality, and large-scale conferencing, and has been recognised by the organisation.
Winners will be announced at the CUBO Awards Dinner on Wednesday 11 June, hosted at Northumbria University.
