The length of presessional course you will need depends on the entry requirements of your degree course and your current English language skills. To determine which course you should take, follow the instructions below:

You have an offer to study an undergraduate or postgraduate Business programme

The University offers a five or ten-week course for students holding an offer for an undergraduate or postgraduate Business programme, which has been designed in collaboration with the Nottingham University Business School and will prepare you for studying at undergraduate or postgraduate level.

You have an offer to study an undergraduate or postgraduate Engineering programme

The University offers a five week course for students holding an offer for an undergraduate or postgraduate Engineering programme, which has been designed in collaboration with the Faculty of Engineering and will prepare you for studying at undergraduate or postgraduate level.

You have an offer to study a postgraduate Law programme

The University offers an 10-week course for students holding an offer for a postgraduate Law programme, which has been designed in collaboration with the School of Law and will prepare you for studying this subject at postgraduate level.

To join this programme you must have an IELTS 6.5 with 6.5 in reading and writing and 6.0 in listening and speaking.

You already have an unconditional offer to study at The University of Nottingham

The University offers a four-week course for students who have an unconditional offer for either a postgraduate or undergraduate degree at The University of Nottingham (including study abroad students Erasmus/Socrates students). This course helps to prepare you for successful academic study at a British university by allowing you to practise and develop essential academic study skills.

Joint offers for Business and Engineering

If you meet the entry requirements, you may be eligible for a joint offer. With a joint offer:

  • you only need one TIER 4 visa and CAS
  • you take an English Language and Academic Skills presessional course and then go on to your postgraduate taught course
  • you have a guaranteed place on your postgraduate taught course
  • your progression to your postgraduate taught course is automatic, provided your attendance on the CELE presessional course is at least 80% and you complete all the coursework
