Where appropriate, we also use research facilities for teaching projects - but please note the exact facilities and equipment you will use depends on your specific course.
Research facilities shaping the future
If you're looking for ground-breaking research facilities, then you've come to the right place. From power electronics and advanced manufacturing, to sustainable energy technology and healthcare technologies, we have three research institutes, nine research centres and 20 research groups.
Advanced Manufacturing Building
This pioneering £24m building on Jubilee Campus hosts our Institute for Advanced Manufacturing (IfAM), shaping the future of UK manufacturing through ground-breaking research projects.
Creative Energy Homes
Real families and businesses live and work on this award-winning, £1.9m research project our University Park Campus, which is visited by over 3,000 people a year to see how energy efficient technologies in the seven houses will help reach carbon neutral goals.
Power Electronics and Machines Centre
Purpose-built for our Power Electronics, Machines and Control research group, this impressive £40m facility is home to three tailor-made labs used for internationally renowned research and powerful industrial collaborations.
Research Acceleration and Demonstration Building
Combining two innovative sustainable methodologies (Passivhaus and BREEAM), this striking £7m building accelerates energy industry innovation through research. From harvesting and storing wind energy, to developing new materials for hydrogen storage.
Aerospace Technology Centre
Containing unique facilities for developing new aerospace technology and transferring knowledge to industry - including through large-scale demonstrators - this £5.1m dedicated facility is based on University of Nottingham Innovation Park (next to Jubilee Campus).
Nottingham Geospatial Building
This impressive £3.9m building on Jubilee Campus is home to Nottingham Geospatial Institute, an international centre of excellence on satellite navigation and positioning systems. It’s also used for teaching students.
Energy Technologies Building
This ground-breaking £6.5m building contains the world’s first zero-carbon laboratory complex and facilitates carbon energy research activities. State-of-the-art facilities including a smart grid, prototyping hall and the UK’s first green hydrogen refuelling facility.
