A portable vinyl turntable for DJs

This project was chosen and undertaken by me, as I am a DJ and have used vinyl turntables. I chose this project as I have a deep connection to the project and understand the frustration and pain that other DJs go through. The aim of this project was to try and make turntables more transportable, through many ways. The way that was undertaken was by eliminating unnecessary space that was not needed, this was done through changing the shape of the turntable, making it lighter. The turntable also has two unique selling points. The first selling point is that there are no extra external cables needed, because all the cables run internally. Apart from the external cables that are needed such as the power cable, microphone cables and speaker cables, everything else runs internally. The second selling point is that the turntable can fold to a 10-degree angle, which is the neutral resting hand position. This allows the DJ to DJ at an angle that would make it easier for them. When the turntable is at an angle, the turntable will can be used digitally, allowing the product to be connected to a computer. This gives the DJ flexibility in how they want to DJ. The way that the folding mechanism works is through an axis point and a ball spring loaded telescopic leg. The telescopic leg would be hollow on the inside to all wires and cables to go through and connect to the top part of the vinyl turntable. This would allow the two parts of the turntable to connect.

The material that was chosen to help manufacture the turntable were Polycarbonate and ABS. Polycarbonate was used on the exterior of the product, whilst ABS as used on the interior of the product. This is because Polycarbonate is a sturdier and durable material than compared to ABS. This is important as the exterior would have to house the interior and protect the interior. The way that this would be manufactured is through injection moulding. There are custom made circuits manufactured from a third party.
