Christmas and New Year library opening times

Everything you need to know to prepare for the winter vacation

Visiting the libraries

During the winter vacation period there will be changes to our normal library opening hours. Please check the Library website for the latest opening times before making the journey. 

If you want to visit a library at another university during the break, you can check whether they are participating in the SCONUL Access scheme. Please submit your application as soon as possible. 

Opening hours

Saturday 20 December

  • Open 9am – 5pm: Djanogly LRC, Hallward, George Green, James Cameron-Gifford

Sunday 21 December

  • Open 9.30am – 5pm: Djanogly LRC, Hallward, George Green, James Cameron-Gifford

Monday 22 and Tuesday 23 December

  • Open 9am - 10pm: Djanogly LRC, George Green, Greenfield, James Cameron-Gifford
  • Open 9am - 5pm: Hallward Library

Wednesday 24 December – Sunday 28 December

  • All libraries will be closed

Monday 29 and Tuesday 30 December

  • Open 9am – 5pm: Djanogly LRC, George Green, James Cameron-Gifford

Wednesday 31 December – Friday 2 January

  • All libraries will be closed

Saturday 3 January

  • Open 9am – 5pm: Djanogly LRC, George Green, James Cameron-Gifford

Sunday 4 January

  • Open 9.30am - 5pm: Djanogly LRC and George Green
  • Open 10am - 5pm: James Cameron-Gifford

Monday 5 January onwards

  • All libraries re-open in vacation hours

Your library loans

Reservations will continue to be active throughout the Christmas vacation and books may be recalled.

If you are leaving campus over the vacation:

  • Borrow any books you will need during the break from our libraries and collect any requests before you leave or we close. 
  • If you have requested books and they haven’t arrived, please cancel the request on NUsearch to give others access.
  • Any books on loan can be requested by others and books will be due back within seven working days.
  • We will email you to let you know when you need to return your books, so please check regularly.
  • Requested books will be due back within seven working days. There will be a £1 a day charge for late returns up to a maximum of £10 per item.

Log in to NUsearch for details of your loans, requests and fines.

Our library staff can answer your questions and help you to cancel any reservations you no longer need. Contact us by email, phone or live chat.
