  • Dr Lara Bianchi

    My area of expertise is workers' rights in Global Value Chains. I look at chains of production in South East Asia and their impacts on female workers. I'm currently leading a GCRF Project on Women's dignity in conflict-affected societies, looking at Mindanao in the Philippines and Peshawar in Pakistan. I previously worked on the implementation of the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights in Sri Lanka.

    I am a historian of modern India who works on migration, gender, refugee memory and politics of nation-building. My book, Citizen Refugee, explores how refugees from Eastern Pakistan struggled to rebuild lives in India. I have also researched and published on Indian women's participation in nation-building, and the conflict between tribal and settler communities in the Andaman Islands.
