Essential tasks to do as a new student
Work your way through the checklist below to make sure you are ready to start and can access all the systems you need during your first weeks. If you're moving to Nottingham you also need to start thinking about your accommodation. The list below will help you work through what you need to do and when.

Activate your IT account
Check your personal email inbox approximately four weeks before you are due to start your course. You will receive an email containing your student ID – you will need this to activate your IT account.

Register online with the university
After you've activated your IT account, you will receive an email to your university email account asking you to register online. You must log into NottinghamHub using your new university username and password to complete registration.

Apply for your university card
Once you've activated your IT account you can also apply for your university card. You will need your university username and password, and a digital passport sized photo saved as a .jpg.

Complete any school tasks
Your school or department Welcome webpages will be live at the end of July. Check to see if your course has additional tasks to complete before starting your studies. These pages will also include details of your induction activities which will provide you with opportunities to meet your tutors and support staff. Induction activities will be shared at the end of August.

Prepare your laptop and mobile phone
We recommend you have a suitable laptop and mobile phone to support your studies. We provide Microsoft 365 (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams etc.) and specialist software for free. You can access Wi-Fi, computers and printers on campus.

Complete module enrolment
If you’re on a programme of study that offers optional modules, you will need to complete module enrolment. This will be open for the following periods:
12 noon, Wednesday 24 September to 5pm, Friday 26 September 2025
12 noon, Monday 29 September to 5pm, Wednesday 8 October 2025
We'll email you with details of modules available and how to choose them. Places on some modules are limited, and will be allocated on a first-come, first served basis.

Your accommodation
Moving to Nottingham to start your studies? Make sure you follow any pre-arrival instructions from your accommodation provider, these will be sent to you via email by early September.

Sign up with a local health centre
As part of your time at Nottingham, it's highly recommended that you register with a local doctor's surgery. If you are living on or close to University Park or Jubilee Campuses, you can register with our on-campus surgery, the University of Nottingham Health Service. If you are studying at Sutton Bonington we recommend you sign up with the Orchard Surgery.
Please register online as soon as you know your new university living address.

Connect to eduroam Wi-Fi and complete registration
When you arrive on campus, ensure you connect to the university’s main Wi-Fi network, called eduroam. You will need to use your university email address and password for this.
Connecting to eduroam automatically confirms your arrival and completes your in-person registration at the university.

Submit your share code
Once your eVisa has been issued, you must provide the university with your share code. Upload your code by filling out our digital visa status form.

Book your in-person registration appointment
After you have completed online registration you must book an in-person registration appointment to confirm that you are in attendance at the university within three weeks of your course start date.

Your accommodation
Moving to Nottingham to start your studies? Make sure you follow any pre-arrival instructions from your accommodation provider, these will be sent to you via email by early September.
Students living in university-owned accommodation can request early arrival from Monday, 15 September. Arriving early will help ensure you've got all your admin tasks completed and are settled into your new home, before your course induction starts. Our Touchdown Essentials event is taking place from Wednesday 17 to Friday 19 September and you will be able to complete in-person registration, pick up a mobile SIM card, and do tasks like set up a bank account and register with the GP.

Sign up for health care in the UK
During your time studying at Nottingham you may need to use the health service. To access these services, you must sign up.
If you're in the UK for six months or less, we advise you to secure private medical insurance before you travel.
Please register online as soon as you know your new university living address.
