Everything you’ll need to know and do in your first few weeks.

Your first weeks at university will be an exciting but busy time. We have lots of activities planned to make you feel happy and settled, and support is always available if you need it. The list below will help you work through everything you’ll need to know and do in your first few weeks as a new student at Nottingham.

There are practical tasks like connecting to wifi, induction activities to get to know your school, and opportunities to meet friends with common interests through the Students’ Union.

Connect to wifi and complete registration

When you arrive on campus ensure you connect to the university’s main wireless network, called eduroam. You can stay connected wherever you are on campus.

When you connect to eduroam this automatically confirms your arrival and completes your university registration.

Collect your university card

It can take up to 10 days to produce your card from when you submit your application. Your card collection location will vary depending on your school. Find your location by using the button below.

Attend your in-person registration appointment

Complete your registration by confirming your attendance as soon as possible and no later than three weeks after your course start date. 

If you didn't book an appointment before you arrived, you can book one now.

Collect your biometric residence permit

A biometric residence permit (BRP) is an immigration document issued onto an ID card. Check your visa decision letter to find out where to collect yours.

Complete module enrolment

Module enrolment opens on Monday 29 January. We'll remind you closer to the time - watch this space!

If your course doesn't offer optional modules, this step is not applicable to you.

Complete module enrolment

If you're on a study abroad, intercampus or 2+2 programme you'll receive an email invitation to complete module enrolment on Thursday 7 December. For everyone else, module enrolment opens on Monday 29 January. We'll remind you closer to the time.

If your course doesn't offer optional modules, this step is not applicable to you.

Get to know the Students' Union (SU)

See what your SU has in store for your time at Nottingham – find out what welcome activities are available, how to join clubs and societies, and generally make the most of your time at the University of Nottingham.

Explore Moodle

Log in to Moodle with your university username and password and start exploring your school/department pages.

You'll find lots of information and resources to help you prepare for your course, but please allow for up to three days after you have registered for your mandatory modules to appear.

View your academic timetable

You will be able to see your personalised timetable once you've completed online registration (with the exception of any optional modules).
