Gabriella Fountain

My name is Gabby Fountain, and I am a recent Product Design and Manufacture graduate from the University of Nottingham. What initially drew me to study Product Design and Manufacture was the blend of creative and technical design. I have always enjoyed Design & Technology throughout school and went on to study engineering at college, so I found PDM to be a great combination of the two.

During my time at university, I particularly enjoyed CAD modelling and developing design ideas into functional products. In my future career, I hope to explore this technical side of product design further and continue building my skills in digital design and development.

SLYDER: Sliding Travel Mobility Scooter

Slyder is a travel mobility scooter designed to offer both convenience and user comfort, making it ideal for everyday use and easy transportation. At the heart of its design is a lightweight aluminium sliding frame that allows the scooter to be compacted for storage or travel, without compromising on structural integrity. Unlike traditional folding mechanisms commonly found in current travel mobility scooters—which often feel confining or unstable—Slyder’s sliding design ensures a solid, secure frame and reliable ride.

The scooter is powered by a lightweight lithium-ion battery that delivers an impressive range of up to 12 miles on a single charge, making it well-suited for daily mobility.

To enhance user safety, Slyder incorporates a steering post angle sensor that automatically reduces speed when cornering, helping to maintain stability and prevent tipping. This intelligent safety feature makes manoeuvring more intuitive and secure, especially in tighter spaces. Further supporting easy handling, the scooter features a tight
