Our global sport careers programme was designed for a student football team who wanted to spend two weeks with us, training, playing and learning about Global Careers in Sport and Sport Leadership.
Training sessions were developed in collaboration with coaches to focus on key areas of improvement and were complimented by sessions on strength and conditioning, as well as recovery and rehabilitation. The course introduced students to sports analysis and the impact this can have on game strategy. Students were able to see this in action through analysis of their own training sessions and matches played against local teams.
Engaging with our state-of-the-art physiology lab, students learned how the performance testing we offer influences player training and medical plans as well as sign on decisions. They even had the opportunity to complete a variety of tests themselves to see how their own stats compare to the England squad. Our elite performance student athletes, including those on Olympic pathways, led a round table discussion on how they balance the demands of sport and higher education, allowing our visiting students to share their own experiences in this area.
Sport leadership was explored through a variety of taught sessions on Entrepreneurship in Sport, Leadership Styles, Behavioural Economics and Trust amongst others.
