Pack for Good
This campaign gives you the opportunity to donate unwanted items such as clothes, electricals, books and furniture to British Heart Foundation (BHF) collection banks on campus and in the local community.
As students vacate their Nottingham homes at a similar time each year, waste management needs to be taken into consideration. Since 2012 the University of Nottingham has joined forces with Nottingham Trent University and Nottingham City Council to support the Pack for Good campaign.
The donated items — which would otherwise likely have ended up in landfill — are taken to BHF charity shops, where they are sold on to make money. The money raised supports the lifesaving research and work of the BHF.
During the academic year 22/23, the University of Nottingham achieved its best year ever of donations to the British Heart Foundation.
There was a remarkable effort from our students, both those living on campus and out in the community.
The University of Nottingham’s on-campus banks had 3,916 bags collected which is the equivalent 31.3 tons of items diverted from landfill. The bags raised an amazing £54,824 for the charity. 2017 held the previous record for UoN donations which was £36,176. This year’s donations are a 51.5% increase from this figure which illustrates just what a fantastic year we have had.
This contribution is in addition to the bags collected by Nottingham City Council out in the local areas that lots of our students choose to live in. They collected 19,532 from the community banks which represents 156.2 tonnes of diverted waste and £273,448 raised for the charity.
2023's donations are on top of the staggering £1,608,273 that Nottingham students raised for the charity in the ten years since the initative's start in 2012.
