Under 18 Accommodation

If you are under the age of 18 and joining the University of Nottingham there will be some additional rules in place for you to follow to safeguard you and provide support and wellbeing where needed.

What you need to know

  • If you will still be under 18 years old after 30th November of your entry year and are offered a place in university accommodation, you will be required to live at either Lincoln Hall of Residence on University Park Campus, or Newark Hall of Residence on Jubilee Campus. These halls will have dedicated areas for students who are under the age of 18.
  • You will have additional levels of support from our Residential Experience Team which will include a pre and post arrival check in, and you will be expected to agree to a regular  wellbeing check in during term time. These checks will end when you turn 18 years old, although wellbeing support will of course still be available to you.
  • Your Academic Tutor will be made aware of your age to enable them to provide any additional support you may require.
  • As you will be legally unable to make purchases such as alcohol, you may be required to have a student ID badge which states you are under 18 to support our staff to identify this. You will be able to exchange this for a standard student ID card when you turn 18 years old.
  • You will need provide the university with details of a guardian who can make wellbeing decisions for you, as the university cannot act in ‘loco parentis’, meaning the university cannot take on the legal responsibility of a parent or guardian. The university will contact this guardian regarding wellbeing issues when assessed by the university as appropriate. If we have safeguarding concerns about you, we will also need to refer these to the relevant local authority in line with our statutory responsibilities.
