Nourishing the Nest

Unit 4A offers a deep and meaningful approach to design advocating for a strong narrative informed by the core values and lived experiences of the scheme’s users.

This project draws inspiration from Ukrainian culture, offering spaces that promote education, foster community connections, enhance biodiversity, and celebrate cultural identity.

At the heart of the design is the integration of green space—not as a secondary feature, but as a fundamental part of the architecture. To support this, the project begins by cultivating the site through the farming of water reeds, which are used both as building materials and a re-fertilisation scheme in preparation for a thriving ecological landscape.

The finished scheme embeds itself into the natural progression of the site providing functional spaces for Liverpudlians, while also creating microhabitats that support urban wildlife. The park as a whole is living, adaptive, and deeply rooted in place—where natural systems, cultural identity, and human experience are seamlessly woven into a unified, sustainable vision.
