Quiet ceremony

The quiet graduation ceremony is designed for students and guests who prefer a smaller and more sensory-friendly atmosphere.

If you are interested in potentially attending the quiet ceremony, please select this option when you complete registration. This does not commit you to attending this ceremony and you can still change your mind to either graduate at the main ceremony or in-absentia. A member of the graduation team will contact you to provide more details before you need to make a final decision.

Please note, the quiet ceremony is not available to students who simply cannot make their allocated ceremony date. In this instance, students must choose to either defer or graduate in absentia.

Travel and parking

Roadworks on the A52 westbound between Queen's Medical Centre (QMC) and Priory Island may cause travel delays. During the summer graduations, traffic will only be able to travel eastbound on this section of the A52, with a westbound diversion in place. Please allow extra time for your journey and check traffic updates before you travel.

Parking for the quiet ceremonies will be outside the Trent Building, at the top of Jubilee Avenue. Our parking attendants will direct you to the designated parking area.

Booking will be via RingGo parking and will cost £10 per vehicle, per ceremony. Full information about how to book your parking will be available on this webpage closer to your ceremony.

Accessible parking

If you or a member of your party are a blue badge holder, you do not need to pay for parking as long as you display your badge.

What to expect on the day

Arrival and check-in | Ceremony format | Photography | Post-ceremony celebration | Gown return

Arrival and check-in

We suggest arriving about 45 minutes before your ceremony start time so that you can familiarise yourself with the space at your own pace. When you arrive, you’ll check in with our team and be directed to gowning (if applicable), which will be in a nearby room on the same floor. A screened area will be available for those who wish to fit their gowns privately.

We ask everyone to be in the ceremony room, 15 minutes before the advertised start time.

Ceremony format

Each ceremony will accommodate a maximum of 10 students, and no more than 40 people in total, including guests.

The ceremony will begin with a short opening speech by the Presiding Officer, followed by the reading of names.

There will be no music or applause to keep the atmosphere calm and respectful.

When your name is called, you can choose to:

  • Stay seated
  • Stand, and if you wish nod your head
  • Come to the front of the room to collect your certificate from the Presiding Officer

Professional photography will be available in nearby rooms on the same floor. You can have your photo taken before or after the ceremony – no pre-booking is required.

Post-ceremony celebration

After your ceremony, you can enjoy a celebratory drink and sweet treat in the foyer. You can also collect your certificate if you did not do so during the ceremony.

Gown return

Please return your gown back to where you collected it from.
