What is the Performance Academy?

Our new Performance Academy offers University of Nottingham students a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on work experience in the elite sport sector and grow your knowledge of careers in performance sport.

Throughout the year, there will be a range of ways to get involved in elite sport through volunteering roles, shadowing placements, workshops, mentoring and careers events. Performance Academy volunteers will work with our high-performance University of Nottingham teams as well as with our partners in the professional sport industry.

Roles will include opportunities within GPS Sports Science, nutrition, strength and conditioning and much more. Working alongside experienced industry professionals, you'll learn to use some of the latest technologies in the sports industry sector.

Who is the Performance Academy for?

The Performance Academy is open to all University of Nottingham students and is aimed at those aspiring towards a career in elite sport and human performance.

The Academy is particularly well-suited to students on our Sport and Exercise Science and Sport Rehabilitation courses - some of the volunteering roles can run in parallel to your course and directly contribute to your required Professional Development Portfolio (PDP) hours.

How can I apply?

Throughout the year, we will post opportunities on our Volunteering and Leadership Academy portal.

Each opportunity will have a short and structured recruitment process, designed to mirror those you'll experience in future job interviews. You'll apply via our online system, submitting your details alongside an up-to-date CV and short cover letter. We'll then invite candidates to a short informal interview.

Everyone who applies, regardless of if they are invited to interview or not, will be provided with bespoke individual feedback with suggested actions you can choose to implement.
