Your views for the new University strategy

We continue to welcome your input and feedback to help us launch a new strategy for the University. Our current strategy comes to an end in 2020, so we are looking forward to refining and finalising the new University strategy by December 2019.

Our new strategy needs to recognise the social, political, cultural and economic contexts in which we are operating, while being true to our core mission and values. From an increasingly competitive global higher education sector, to the challenges of a more constrained financial landscape, to the disruptive opportunities presented by the 'Fourth Industrial Revolution', we must adapt to the needs of the present day while ensuring our aspirations are aligned with the society in which we exist.

We appreciate all the contributions that were made during the previous Green Paper consultation stage for the new strategy and thank alumni that engaged with this process. Alumni took the opportunity to provide us with feedback on areas such as our infrastructure; people, culture and organisation; teaching and learning; research and knowledge exchange; and our civic role.

The Green Paper consultation received in excess of 17,000 pieces of feedback from staff, alumni and students that helped to shape the proposed content for inclusion in the University strategy. This document is not a draft of the strategy itself – we are inviting responses to the substance of the proposed content rather than the precise language. To illustrate what the proposal could mean in practice, we've included some examples of projects and initiatives that have been suggested and which would be in line with the proposed goals.

Your views are important as we plan the next successful chapter in the University's history. We invite you to review the proposed content document and answer four key questions by completing a short online form by Monday 30 September. If you'd prefer to complete a hard copy of the form, you can request one by emailing

Your views will be processed anonymously so if you have a specific request you would like us to consider, or to discuss the proposed content further, please contact us by emailing Once again, we thank you for playing a key role in helping to shape the future of our University.
