What's on offer at The University of Nottingham

With us, you can #FindYourActive in many different ways as we have a huge offer for students here at the University of Nottingham, and plenty of opportunities to try out our clubs and programmes. Check out what might be the right fit for you.

We have over 70 sports clubs at the University, several of whom compete in the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) leagues or in other national and regional competitions. Some clubs run trials at the beginning of the Autumn term to select squads but many welcome new players throughout the year.

As well as playing against other Universities, there's also a huge intramural sports programme at the University of Nottingham. You can choose from 13 different sports including football, netball and rugby and teams can be made up of halls, societies or groups of friends. Matches all take place on campus, either on Wednesdays or weekends.

Our student sports and fitness membership includes access to three fully-equipped fitness suites as well as over 150 weekly group exercise classes. Members can also take advantage of 1-2-1 sessions with our fitness instructors, where you can build your own personal fitness programme.

For students who want to play sport for fun, our Just Play programme is ideal. With over 20 sports on the programme, you can drop in for just a small cost or free if you have a UoN sports and fitness membership. Lots of our sports clubs also have a social section for casual players.

Our Leadership Academy offers students several options to develop their leadership skills including delivering in local schools, coaching in clubs or officiating. Suitable for all students, the Academy provides training, mentoring and hands-on experience to all participants.

The Headliner returns for our BUCS Super Rugby opener

Frequently asked questions

In order to join one of our sports clubs, you will need to purchase a club membership via one of the below methods:

  1. Find your sports club on the Students' Union website and login using your University account (activated upon registration). You will then be able to make your payment online - card payments only. Returning students, please note that 2023/24 memberships will be on sale online from 1 August 2023.
  2. Visit the SU Box Office in the Portland Building where you can make payment by cash or card.

Please note, several sports clubs will also require you to purchase UoN sports and fitness membership - check with an individual club to see if this is the case.

These are the ways you can find out about the sporting offer for Sutton Bonington students:

  1. Visit the Sutton Bonington Sports Centre and speaking to our staff at the centre.
  2. Visit the Sutton Bonington Guild website for a list of all the SB sports clubs you can join.
