What is Just Play?

Our Just Play programme offers a flexible way for students to try out different sports and make new friends in a fun and friendly environment.

Sessions are open to all regardless of skill or ability and with a wide range of sports to choose from, there really is something for everyone! You can attend as many sessions as you wish, with no weekly commitment to attend and no requirement to be a UoN Sport and Fitness or club member.

For UoN Sport and Fitness members, there will be no charge to attend these sessions. Non-members will pay £3 per session.

If there is an *, this means the session doesn't run weekly and individual dates will be specified. 

The Summer Term timetable will run from Monday 9 May - Sunday 12 June.
This isn't a final version of the timetable and additional sessions are likely to be added to the programme so please check the timetable or the Facebook page regularly.

Non-Members

Once your account has been activated, you'll be able to pre-book an activity using the links in the timetable. Payment will be required at the time of booking. Should you need to cancel or re-arrange a booking, please contact our Reception team. Bookings will be loaded onto your student card and you'll be able to swipe at the turnstile and head straight to your chosen activity.

Workshops

The University Counselling Team will be running a series of Microsoft Teams workshops through May, so make sure you check these out. Several topics will be covered and bookings will open two weeks before the session.

Frequently asked questions

If attendees wish, they can pre-book ahead of their visit. Bookings for each session will open three days before the session is due to take place. Please note, some sessions have to be booked in advance, and the timetable will advise of this (for example, Climbing must be booked in advance). 

Alternatively, just turn up 10-15 minutes before the session and sign up at the Reception Desk (please be aware sometimes our Reception Desks can get busy so you may be required to wait).

 

Most of our sessions are £3 although some are priced differently. Please check the timetable for details of specific sessions.

No - however, UoN sport and fitness members can attend all sessions on University Park Campus, Jubilee Campus or Sutton Bonington Campus for free so it may be worth considering purchasing a sports membership. This will give you access to use all of our facilities, including the pool and fitness suites.

If you are a complete beginner to a sport, then we recommend you choose one of our coached sessions as these are designed for those who have never played before. A friendly instructor will show you the basics and then you'll get chance to try out your new skills. 

Not a problem - Just Play sessions are designed with busy students in mind and it doesn't matter if you miss a session. Don't forget though, the more you attend the bigger the health and wellbeing benefits!

Yes, you can attend as many Just Play sessions as you can fit in! The programme is designed to help students try as many sports as possible to find the ones they enjoy the most.

Wear comfortable sports clothing and suitable footwear. If the session is outdoors, warm/waterproof clothing is recommended.

All equipment will be provided! Make sure you are suitably dressed, have water to keep yourself hydrated and have pre-registered for your chosen session. We recommend bringing sanitiser with you although this will be available at various locations on site at each of our facilities. 

Staff members are welcome to join Just Play sessions, but the University of Nottingham runs a programme of sport designed for staff which may be more suitable. Visit our staff sport webpage for more information.
