Staff Sport 1

University of Nottingham Sport offers a wide range of opportunities for members of staff to keep fit, have fun and meet new people.

Whether taking part in one of our sports course, joining staff sports clubs, participating in one of our events or playing casually with colleagues, friends or family - there really is something for everyone!

We value your opinion as we look to develop and improve our offer to staff. If you have any suggestions, please email Daniella Dutton

 

How to Book

Please check the booking information in the timetable below as the booking process differs per Sport.

If you need to block book the course, please visit or call one of our Sports Centres receptions and advise which course you would like to book onto. Payment will be taken immediately for the full block of sessions.

For sessions that don't require booking, please register with reception on arrival and email Daniella Dutton with any questions you might have.

Events

As well as courses, we also run a number of events for University of Nottingham Staff. These events offer a great opportunity to socialise with colleagues and meet other staff members.

Staff Sports Day (Sutton Bonington) - Thursday 21 June 2018

Our popular retro sports day will be heading over to Sutton Bonington on Thursday 21 June and will be open to all staff and postgraduate students at the University! Teams of 5 (with a minimum of 2 females) are required to battle it out across a number of different individual and team activites. Previous activities have included welly wanging, giant jenga and our fun-filled space hopper relays.

Registration will start at 4pm, with a 4.20pm event start, located at our Sutton Bonington Sports Centre 3G Pitch. 

How to enter:

  • Our online event registration form will be available late Spring!
  • The event is free-of-charge
  • The deadline for entries will be Friday 8 June and places will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis
 
Staff Sports Day (University Park) - Tuesday 25 June 2018

Returning to our University Park Campus for it's sixth year, our annual Staff Sports Day really is not to be missed!!

Open to all staff at the University, with a minimum of 2 females required per team of 5, fun will be had by all. Activities will be confirmed nearer the time but previous Sports Days have included bean bag throws, quoits, obstacle courses and the famous egg and spoon relay race!!

Staff Golf Day - Friday 29 June 2018 

The University of Nottingham Staff Golf Day will be hosted at Wollaton Park Golf Club on Friday 29 June 2018. Staff are invited to enter in teams of 4 or as individuals for 18 holes of golf. Breakfast and a three course lunch will be included in the day. For more detail on the format please click here

  • The 2018 entry form will be available late May
  • Once registered, I'll email you to confirm the cost and how you make the payment
  • The deadline for entries is tbc and places will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis
 

Staff Sports Clubs

There are a number of staff sports clubs hosted at the University across our campuses, please click on the specific clubs below for further information.

Staff with sports membership can book our sports facilities to play independently with colleagues, friends and family.

Badminton Club

This is a friendly, lively club open to all members of staff and postgraduate students. The club runs a men's team and a mixed team in the Notts Badminton Association League.

Members meet on Wednesday evenings at David Ross Sports Village from 7-10.30pm and Saturday afternoons at Jubilee Sports Centre from 3-5pm. Team practice is on Monday evenings from 6-8pm.

The club is always looking for new members of all levels.

Bowls Club

The Bowls clubs is linked to the the University of Nottingham Social and Sports club and teams play both midweek and at the weekends in the Nottingham Federation League and the local Beeston league.

The club has its own bowling green which can be found beside the sports centre tennis courts on University Park campus. All standards are welcome.

Golf Society

This is a small society linked to the University of Nottingham Staff and Sports social club.

It is open to golfers of all standards - no handicap required to join.

The club currently has organised competitions on local courses about once a month from April to November.

The emphasis of the society is to provide friendly competition at a low price.

Squash Club

This club is open to staff and postgraduate students, graduates of the University of Nottingham and associate members of the sports facilities.

Social and competitive squash is organised for players of all standards.

Internal leagues are run throughout the year, together within an annual knockout tournament and several social evenings where various competitions are organised.

Touch Rugby

The UoN Spiders compete in the Nottingham Touch Rugby League and have been very successful in the 2014/15 Mixed Touch League.

The team always welcome new players, both male and female to enjoy a game of skill and pace, without the contact element of traditional rugby. 

Nottingham Touch Club also offer sessions for total novices to the sport.

Frequently Asked Questions 

Do I need to have a UoN Sports Membership to attend these courses?
No - you don't need a UoN Sports Membership to attend the above staff sport courses and sessions. UoN Sports Membership is required, however, to use the sports facilities on a casual basis or to attend the gym classes on the fitness timetable.
 
Does it matter if I can't attend all the dates of the course?
It doesn't matter if you need to miss a session - just let Daniella Dutton know so that the instructor can be informed. You will be charged for all sessions in a block booking however (excluding volleyball, climbing, basketball and football), so please be aware that refunds for individual sessions cannot be made. 
 
The sport I am interested in has already started - can I still sign up?
If there are places still available there may be the possibility to sign up later for a course - please email Daniella Dutton to find out. For volleyball, climbing, basketball and football there is no need to book - just show up at any session!
