Performance Karate
University of Nottingham offers one of the UK’s best performance environments for Karate athletes, with an extensive programme of coaching, development and athlete support services.
Having successfully won BUCS Nationals Karate title in 2020 (securing 4 Gold medals in the process) University of Nottingham Karate is considered one of the most comprehensive Karate programmes in the UK student sport. Boasting an experienced coaching staff, with some of the best facilities in the country, the University of Nottingham is an ideal place to compete in Karate while studying at one of the UK’s top universities.
There are athletes within the Karate team who compete and a national and international level and the programme supports student-athletes performing in European and World student games.
The programme is supported by the leading facilities, support staff and coaching team situated at the £40 million David Ross Sports Village, with students enjoying weekly strength and conditioning sessions, access to the state-of-the-art Sports Injury Clinic, as well as training and competion on-site within the Dojo.

Performance Karate Coaching
Sonny Roberts has practiced Karate for over 24 years and was a member of the National squad for 12 years. He first coached the club in 2016 and has become an integral part of its success, leading it to our first BUCS Nationals Overall Title in 2020.
