We offer fun, friendly indoor climbing options for children of all ages at our indoor climbing wall at David Ross Sports Village. All our sessions are led by qualified instructors and coaches, experienced in working with young people. 

For Under 16's we offer climbing courses, taster sessions, birthday parties and the option to climb with a registered climber.

The University of Nottingham Climb School courses will now be managed through a new system; 'Course Pro' an industry-leading online management tool.

Children's climbing options

Climb School overview

Our Children's Climb School offers sessions for 5.5 years to 17 years. We follow the Wild Climbers Scheme for children under 7 and NICAS (National Indoor Climbing Award Scheme) syllabus for 7 years and above.

We run sessions on Saturday and Sunday mornings during school term-time only and courses vary from 5-8 week blocks with breaks during the school holidays.

Groups offered

  • Wild Climbers: for children aged 5.5 to 7 years.
  • NICAS 7 - 11: for children aged 7 to 11 years.
  • NICAS 12 - 17: for children aged 12 to 17 years.

Dates of courses for 2025-26 

Saturdays:

  • Starts 1st November and runs to 13th December 2025 (7 week course)
  • Starts 10th January and runs to 14th February 2026 (6 week course)
  • Starts 28th February and runs to 28th March 2026 (5 week course)
  • Starts 11th April and runs to 16th May 2026 (6 week course)
  • Starts 30th May and runs to 19th July 2026 (8 week course)

Sundays: 

  • Starts 2nd November and runs to 14th December 2025 (7 week course)
  • Starts 11th January and runs to 15th February 2026 (6 week course)
  • Starts 1st March and runs to 29th March 2026 (5 week course)
  • Starts 12th April and runs to 17th May 2026 (6 week course)
  • Starts 31st May and runs to 20th July 2026 (8 week course)

Prices

The Junior Climbing School is available in bookable courses as per the dates listed above. Prices per session are:

  • Wild Climbers £11
  • NICAS 7 - 11 years - £13 per session.
  • NICAS 12 - 17 years £14.50 per session.

Activating your Home Portal

For current customers already attending a Junior climbing course or new customers who have joined the programme through our Front of House team you will be required to sign up to the Home Portal to manage your bookings and payments.

To register for the Home Portal, please follow the steps below:

  1. Go to the Home Portal page and click the ‘Activate’ button.
  2. When you were booked onto the programme, you will have received an email with the link to register for the Home Portal which includes your Card ID number. You will require this number to activate your account.
  3. Answer the security questions either with date of birth OR postcode of the climber. We recommend using the date of birth encase you have changed address since setting up your membership.
  4. If you have more than one child on our programme, use the add member option when you go through the activation steps. You will require both members Card ID numbers; you will receive an email for both climbers when they are booked on.
  5. You will now be required to set-up your log in details and confirm that you have read terms and conditions by ticking the box.
  6. Once you have completed the registration, you will be sent an 'Activate account' email. Please ensure you click on the link in the email so you are able to log onto your Home Portal.

Bookings and payments - Climb School

The Junior climbing courses are now moving to a new software system to allow you to manage your bookings and payments online! You will no longer need to make payments through the Front of House team.

The Junior Climbing sessions will continue to run in bookable courses and payment will be required upfront to secure your place.

Your next course of Junior climbing is now available to book through your New Home Portal. If you have yet to register for the new online system please see 'Activating your Home Portal' section.

The next course of Junior Climbing will start Saturday 10th/Sunday 11th January 2025 and will run to Saturday 14th/Sunday 15th January 2026.

To secure your place on the programme you must pay by the end of Sunday 3rd January 2026. Please be advised that if you have not paid by the deadline, you will automatically be un-enrolled from the programme.

To pay for your next course:

  1. Go to the Home Portal page and log in
  2. Click onto the course you are attending
  3. Click the 'Pay' button
  4. Follow the instructions to make payment

If you have any issues making payment for the next course please contact the Front of House team on 0115 7487000.

It is the customers responsibility to manage their bookings and payments. To ensure that you remain on the programme please pay for the next course by the payment deadline.

Climbing tasters

If you would like to book a taster for your child before committing to a block of lessons, we can offer sessions for at the cost of £13 per child.

Children's Birthday Parties

Did you know that we offer climbing birthday parties for children aged 5 - 16 years old?

Parties last for 75 minutes and include the hire of all climbing equipment. Our expert climbing team will show your group the basics of climbing in a fun friendly environment.

How much?

  • 6 children - 75 min - £76.00
  • 12 children - 75 min - £148.00
  • Larger groups - please enquire - max 24 children per party

What times are available?

  • Saturdays between 2.30 - 3.45pm. 
  • Sundays outside of University term-time (please enquire to find out availability)
  • If you are interested in alternative times please enquire

Can I book catering?

Food can be booked through our onsite Clubhouse Café subject to availability and would be accommodated in Café.

To find out more please enquire. You are not able to supply your own food. 

When attending the party

Please ensure your group are wearing training shoes (open toed sandals and flip flops are not permitted). Skirts or dresses should not be worn without shorts or leggings underneath.

Climbing with your child

Did you know that under 16 years old can climb with an Adult for £3 per session?

There is no minimum age for children to climb however parents are fully responsible for supervising their children and ensuring their safety whilst using the climbing wall. Children (under 18's) must be directly supervised at all times.

If you are interested in taking advantage of this option please follow the steps below:

  • All those wanting to attend a session, Juniors and Adults, will require a membership (Pay as you go memberships available).
  • To be able to supervise anyone under the age of 18 years, you will need to have either registered with us as a competent climber/boulderer.
  • You must complete a registration form at reception to demonstrate competence for supervision. Parent/guardian (minimum age 18 years) will need to complete a supervision form for their child before their first visit. U18 Parent / Guardian Supervisor form.
  • Supervision form needs to be completed for each different Parent/ Guardian supervising a under 18 year old.
  • Once the supervision form has been completed, this is valid for one year and will need to be completed annually.
  • Parents/guardians may supervise their children to climb on the wall. You can climb with and supervise up to three under 18s. 

Please be advised that we do not hire children's harnesses and the smallest climbing shoes available to hire at size 3. You are welcome to bring your own climbing equipment.

For 16 - 18 years olds who are safe to climb unsupervised, we offer a Under 18 Competency test. Successful completion of this will give the 16 - 18 year old access to the climbing wall unsupervised. Booking of the Under 18 Competency test is by appointment only, and parents/ guardians must be present. Please enquire about these sessions directly with the Climbing Wall Team at climbingwall@nottingham.ac.uk.

What happens if I would like to change times?

If you would like to change the time that you attend please call the Front of House team on 0115 7487000 or email sport@nottingham.ac.uk

Will climbers still be completing the NICAS log books?

For Children's climbing we will not be moving the criteria for what they learn in the sessions to the online system as the NICAS log books have to be completed for the awards.

Climbers will continue to complete the log books as normal.

Where do I get a NICAS log book?

The NICAS log books can be purchased from the Front of House desk, £10 per book.

How do I know what my child is working on in the climbing sessions?

Please see the link below to the NICAS scheme.

I haven’t received an email to set up my home portal, what do I do?

Please check your junk emails first, remember the emails will come from sport@nottingham.ac.uk with instructions on what to do and noreply@coursepro.co.uk for emails that have the information for registering. We advise saving both email addresses in your contacts so future emails come through to your inbox.

If you cannot find the emails in your junk email, please contact Front of House or email sport@nottingham.ac.uk to check your personal details are entered on our system correctly.

I can’t remember what email I signed up with or my email address isn’t recognised, what do I do?

If this happens, please contact the Front of House team or email sport@nottingham.ac.uk to check that all your details are entered onto our system correctly.

I want to change the email address for my Home Portal, what do I do?

For a customer to be able to change the email address for their account, we will need to unlink your current email address so you can activate your account against a new email address.

Please email sport@nottingham.ac.uk to request a change of email account for your Home Portal.

We are parents who are separated and are both wanting access to our child’s account, what do we do?

The Home Portal can only have one email address registered to it. We recommend setting up an email account specifically for junior climbing that both parents can access and log onto and then share the Home Portal access.

I have forgotten my password, what do I do?

When you go to the log in page on the Home Portal there is a forgotten password link that you can click to change your password.

I am having problems logging onto my account for the first time, or it won’t let me log on, what do I do?

When you start the activate Home Portal process, you will receive an activation email after entering all your details. You will need to click the link in the activation email to complete the registration process to log in.

If you have missed the activation email, please email sport@nottingham.ac.uk to ask them to activate your account. Please ensure that you include the climbers name in the email.

When I try to complete the security questions for date of birth or postcode, I get an error message? What do I do?

It might be that your personal details have been entered onto our system incorrectly. Please email sport@nottingham.ac.uk, to confirm your date of birth or speak to Front of House.

I have set my children up on separate accounts and I want to link them together, what do I do?

If you email sport@nottingham.ac.uk with your request, we will be able to de-activate one child's account. Once this has been completed, you can then log onto the other child's account and click add member.

You will need that child's membership number to complete the set-up so please request in the email if you do not already have these details.

Is there an app that I can download?

No. However, if you go to the website, uonsport.courseprogress.co.uk and save it to your home screen, you will be able to easily access the portal.

How will I know when to pay for my next course?

When your current course is due to finish you will receive an email from noreply@nottingham.ac.uk asking you to pay for the next course

How can I pay for the next course?

Once you receive the email saying the next course is available to book you will need to log into the Home Portal, click the 'Pay' button and make payment through our online gateway. Please ensure that you complete this before the payment deadline.

What happens if I do not pay before the payment deadline?

Once the payment deadline has passed all the customers who have not paid will be un-enrolled from the next course and the space will be made available to new customers.

To book back onto the programme you will need to contact the Front of House team on 0115 7487000 or speak to them in person at the desk. Please remember that we no longer offer the option to make telephone payments.

Can I pay over the phone?

Since September 2025 we no longer offer the option to make telephone payments. This is why the new online system will make it easy for you to pay for your next course.

If you do forget pay by the deadline, Front of House will be able to book you back onto the programme if a space is still available and then you will need to log into our legend online booking system to make the first payment.

A session was cancelled and I am owed a credit note?

All credit notes for sessions cancelled have been transferred onto the new online software system. When you go to pay for the next course, any credit notes that you are owed will show as a deduction in the basket when you go to pay.

Why can't I see a credit note on my account?

Credit notes do not show on the Home page of your portal. When you next go to pay, select the option to pay and click continue,  it will then show as a deduction in your basket. 

I am ill and cannot make it to my lessons, will I be charged?

Yes, the policy remains the same, there will be no credits or refunds if you cannot make it to your session. If there is a planned session you will be charged.

Can I pay with any card?

The only card that we do not accept is American Express.

Can I pay with cash?

If you would like to pay with cash you can still pay through Front of House when you are on site.

Why is my Mastercard payment failing?

MasterCard will only be accepted if your acquiring bank has enabled 3DSv2. Please double-check with your Acquiring bank that this has been set up and enabled properly. Once this has been enabled, MasterCard's can then be used to make payment.
