Gym services and facilities

Our gyms, located across our three campuses feature the latest in fitness technology , including a SYNRGY360 training area, WLinear training rig, Watt bikes and the latest cardio equipment from Life Fitness - all connected by the LFconnect app to track your work outs.

Each gym has dedicated areas for cardio, fixed weights, free weights, functional training, plate-loaded machines, lifting racks and cable motion.

Our fitness team are on hand to deliver a range of fitness support services including lifting workshop, tailored 1-2-1 programmes and  personal training.

Functional Training Room at David Ross Sports Village

David Ross Sports Village gym has had a huge transformation

The University of Nottingham recently teamed up with Life Fitness™ to completely re-design our Gym at David Ross Sports Village. Improvements include brand new lifting and resistance technology, new lighting and improved flooring to re-imagine the gym space and increase capacity.

Our new Functional Training Room (FTR) at Jubilee Sport Centre is now also available to members alongside our regular fitness provision across our other campuses facilities.

These redevelopments combine best-in-class Life Fitness™ and Hammer Strength equipment to create a flawlessly integrated functional training experience.

Additional gym upgrades at the University of Nottingham include:

  • More lifting racks and larger free weights area
  • Improved layout and selection of pin loaded and plate loaded resistance machines
  • Dedicated fitness Class area
  • Lighter lifting area
  • New functional Training Area
  • Improved layout and use of space

Alongside upgrades to the fitness equipment, the team have connected a brand-new music system, adding LED lighting and installing new mirrors to motivate and inspire.

Gym Inductions

Our fitness instructors are on hand to take you through the basics of how to use the equipment correctly, safely and effectively. If you are new to the fitness suite, need some guidance on how to use the machines or would like a fitness instructor to check your technique then we are happy to help!

Duration: 60 minutes

1-2-1 Fitness Programme

Our skilled fitness instructors can design a specific programme to help you reach your goals and make the most out of your time in the fitness suite. If you need some guidance on your fitness routine or if your training has plateaued and you would like fresh ideas, then book in for a fitness programme!

Duration: 60 minutes

If you have been following your fitness programme for 4-6 weeks, it can be time to change things up and make some alterations to keep you on the track to success. You can book in to review your programme with the same instructor or use the knowledge of another staff member. Don't worry, we won't be offended - change is good every once in a while!

Gym Taster Sessions

An addition to your workout routine, taster sessions offer an introduction to alternative types of training. Our knowledgeable fitness instructors deliver taster classes in boxing pad work, kettlebells, indoor cycling and Watt bike, stretching and flexibility, nutritional advice, body MOTs and Power Plate.

Duration: 30 minutes / 60 minutes

Lifting Workshops

If you are new to weight training, these clinics are perfect for learning the fundamentals. Small group sessions cover the important aspects of the three major compound lift styles; deadlift, press and squats. We focus on technique, safety and ways to improve your performance.

Duration: 45-60 minutes

Bodtrax

At David Ross Sports Village there is a Boditrax machine available for use. Boditrax is a system that assesses your body through Bioelectric Impedance Analysis (BIA) and delivers 14 different measurements, such as your ideal weight, your BMI and your metabolic age, fat and muscle mass. You can also review your results with one of our fitness instructors and help build on your personal fitness goals.

Scans cost £2.50 each (terminals accept contactless payment).
