UNIversal Gym Membership
University of Nottingham is excited to partner with British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS) on the new UNIversal Gym Card.

Ideal for during university holidays when you return home or even visiting a friend, it's the perfect way to keep up your routine even when you're out of town.
We're also welcoming UNIversal Gym card holders from other institutions taking part in the scheme to our fitness venues.

Where do I get my UNIversal gym card from?
You will need to collect your card from your institution of study or work.
University of Nottingham students and staff may apply for a card at any of our sports centre receptions during opening hours. You will need to bring your University of Nottingham student or staff ID card with you.
Do I have to get my annual gym membership from my university of study/work?
Yes. The UNIversal Gym membership is only available to you if your annual membership is with your university of study or work.
When is the membership valid until and is this only valid out of term-time?
The 2018-19 membership is valid until 31 August 2019, regardless of which university you are at or when you get a UNIversal Gym membership card. The scheme runs on academic year and not 12 months from the date of collection.
You can use other universities' facilities during term-times AND during the holiday periods. As this is a pilot, BUCS will be reviewing this over the year and some access times may be changed if capacity becomes an issue. Any changes made will be shown on the BUCS website.
Where do I go to find out which facilities I can access?
All universities that are part of the UNIversal Gym Membership can be found here.
At a minimum, all universities are offering access to their gym facilities, some many be offering more. It is your responsibility to check what is available before visiting another university.
At the University of Nottingham UNIversal Gym Members may access the fitness suite and swimming pool at David Ross Sports Village, the fitness suite at Jubilee Sports Centre and the fitness suite at Sutton Bonington Sports Centre. Please click here for the opening times of each facility.
What happens when I visit a new facility for the first time?
You will need to take your UNIversal Gym Membership card with you and your student or staff ID card. If you do not have both with you, the facility you are visiting has the right to refuse entry.
On your first visit you will need to complete a Health Commitment Statement; this is a standard procedure whenever you use a facility for the first time. Additional information required will vary by facility.
At the University of Nottingham, we require visitors to show both cards on each visit and you will be asked to sign the Health Commitment Statement on your first visit.
Will I have to show both cards each time I return to another university facility?
Please be prepared to show both cards each time you visit unless otherwise stated. It is at the discretion of each university to decide what ID they wish to see if you are a regular visitor.
Visitors to the University of Nottingham will need to show both cards on each visit to our facilities.
What happens if I lose my UNIversal Gym card?
In the first instance, please speak to your home institution to pick up a replacement.
If you are a University of Nottingham student or staff member, please visit any of our sports centre receptions during opening hours to obtain a replacement. You will need to bring your University of Nottingham staff or student card with you.
Why do some universities exclude students / staff from another university accessing their facilities
This will occur in situations when two universities are in close proximity or in the same city. This restriction is required in order to manage the number of users accessing facilities and potential capacity issues.
University of Nottingham students and staff who hold UNIversal Gym Cards will not be able to access facilities at Nottingham Trent University and Nottingham Trent students and staff will not be able to access facilities at the University of Nottingham.
I have an annual membership at a university which is part of this scheme but I am not able to access the UNIversal Gym Membership card. Why could this be?
Please contact your university in the first instance to understand why this may be the case. It is likely that your annual membership is off-peak access only and you must have annual peak membership to gain access to the UNIversal Gym Membership scheme.
