Premier Squash League

England Squash have announced the long awaited return of the Premier Squash League, featuring seven teams from around the UK, including the University of Nottingham. 

The teams, comprising two male and two female players, will compete in a league format between October and April, with all four matches played on one court in best of five to 11 format.

The final will be held in June for the chance to be crowned PSL Champion!

home_work Matches are hosted at the iconic £40 million David Ross Sports Village located on the University's University Park campus, using the brand new all-glass show court as well as the Nottingham Squash Rackets Club, set in the historic Park neighbourhood of Nottingham underneath Nottingham Castle.
person The squad features some of the world's best players including former World No. 1 Nick Matthew. The team also includes top student players from the University's performance squash programme including current scholar Jared Carter.

Nottingham travelled to the University of Birmingham in the first round of the 2022/23 Premier Squash League and came away with a victory. After winning two apiece, it was the #GreenandGold who would win 8-7 on countback!

  • Grace Clark lost to Kiera Marshall 0-3 (6-11, 9-11, 2-11)

After a narrow victory in our opening Premier Squash League match of the year, our #GreenandGold team returned to the University of Nottingham campus for our first home fixture. Taking on Alba Storm in a tough contest, the #GreenandGold came up short.

Our Nottingham squad aimed to bounce back with a win after our first defeat of the year in the previous round. In our final fixture of 2022, Nottingham faced St. George's at Nottingham Squash & Rackets Club just before Christmas, but unfortunately came up just short against a very strong opponent whose team included University of Nottingham alumna and Commonwealth gold medal winner - Gina Kennedy.

  • Millie Tomlinson lost to Gina Kennedy 0-3 (7-11, 2-11, 6-11)

University of Nottingham took on a Pontefract side who had won two and lost two of their opening four matches. Pontefract sat second in the league table before the fixture though, and their class told with a 4-0 victory on the night.

Nottingham take on Crawley in round six of the PSL looking to get back into the win column after three losses. With a playoff place looking unlikely, the #GreenandGold side will be looking to end the season strongly.

Below are bios for all of our Premier Squash League representatives. 

Nick Matthew on court at David Ross Sports Village Nick Matthew

Nick, otherwise known as ‘The Wolf’, first drew the squash world’s attention when, in 2006, he became the first English player to win the British Open men's title since 1939. From then he reached World No.1 in June 2010 and won both the British Open and the World Open three times!

Declan, who is originally from Nottingham, rapidly climbed his way up the world rankings reaching the top 20 in 2018. He is currently ranked number 43 in the world.

Millie Tomlinson has been playing professionally on the PSA Tour since 2008, and has forged a successful career in the sport, breaking into the top 20 in 2019.

Belgium’s No.2, only second to her older sister, Nele. The younger of the Gilis sisters broke into the World's top 30 for the first time in her career.

Coline Aumard on court for the University of Nottingham Coline Aumard (World Ranking: 38)

Coline is one of the best French players on the world PSA Tour, with a huge year in 2014 where she lifted three tour titles. Coline went on to break into the World top 30 in 2016. Coline is also currently a coach for the University of Nottingham squash programme.

Having made 4 PSA Tour finals, Lucy Beecroft is one of several young Englishwomen inside the top 100 of the World Rankings. Lucy is a former student after studying Health Psychology MSc at the University of Nottingham.

Adam is a University of Nottingham Physiotherapy graduate and current racket sports team physio at the university. Adam has a career-high ranking of #105, and has represented Great Britain in World University Championship Squash (WUCS) winning team gold.

Nottingham Squash Rackets Club Nottingham Squash Rackets Club

Nottingham Squash Rackets Club founded in October 1909 is one of the premier squash clubs in England. Located in an exclusive residential area, close to Nottingham city centre, the club has 10 squash courts, gymnasium, physiotherapy, changing rooms with saunas and steam rooms, a conference room, plus a small private meeting room with access to terrace.

Our PSL Venues

We host Premier Squash League matches at two different venues, alternating between each for home matches. The first venue is David Ross Sports Village located on the University of Nottingham campus, whilst some matches are played at Nottingham Squash Rackets Club located near Nottingham castle.

Getting to David Ross Sports Village

The David Ross Sports Village is located on the west side of the main University Park campus and can be easily accessed via the West Entrance just off University Boulevard (use postcode NG7 2RD).

Download a copy of the campus map here and you'll find us at location number 34. Parking is available free of charge after 4.30pm in marked spaces and our event car park. Blue badge parking can be found in front of the main entrance to the building.

You can also find details of how to get here by car, bus or tram here. Our nearest park and ride is Toton Lane and you hop off at the University Boulevard stop.

Spectators can purchase food and drinks from the Clubhouse Cafe at David Ross Sports Village.

Getting to Nottingham Squash and Rackets Club

Nottingham Squash and Rackets Club is located on Tattershall Drive, The Park, Nottingham (use postcode NG7 1BX). It's just a short walk from Nottingham City Centre and Nottingham Train Station.

Spectators may park free-of-charge in the Nottingham Squash and Rackets Club car park - limited street parking is also available in the surrounding area.

Spectators can purchase food and drinks, including alcoholic beverages from the club bar and function room.
