The University of Nottingham’s technicians are vital to the success of our institution. Our highly skilled and expert technical staff are essential to delivering research and teaching on an international stage.

We employ over 700 technicians across our campuses in the UK, China and Malaysia. They have expertise that spans a wide range of disciplines and they make a fundamental contribution towards the University’s aims to deliver excellence in research and knowledge exchange, teaching and the student experience.

Our Technician Commitment

The University of Nottingham is a founding signatory of the Technician Commitment, a university and research institution initiative led by a steering group of sector bodies, with support from the Science Council and the Gatsby Foundation. The Commitment was initiated to ensure visibility, recognition, career development and sustainability for technicians, technologists and skills specialists working in higher education and research across all disciplines. To date over 100 organisations have become signatories of the initiative.

Technicians are an essential part of any research team

The University of Nottingham is considered a leader in the advocation and development of the roles of technicians in UK higher education and research. In 2017 we became a founding signatory of the Technician Commitment, a university and research institution initiative led by a steering group of sector bodies, with support from the Science Council and the Gatsby Charitable Foundation. The Technician Commitment was initiated to ensure visibility, recognition, career development and sustainability for technicians, technologists and skills specialists working in higher education and research across all disciplines. To date over 100 universities, research institutes, learned societies and professional bodies have engaged with the initiative.
