Welcome to the Academic Support web pages. We offer specialist study support to students with specific learning differences such as dyslexia, dyspraxia and ADHD and other Specific Learning Differences. Here you will find some information about the work we do and resources for your study.

The Academic Support Team



Academic Support provides a personal and practical approach to academic study and opportunities for both undergraduate and postgraduate students with Specific Learning Differences to develop their learning strategies. It also provides specialist study support for students with dyslexia, dyspraxia and ADHD and other specific learning differences . Explore these pages using the icons below to find out about the wide range of academic support and resources available.

  • The deadline for students to contact Academic Support to discuss adjustments to exams for January 2017 is Friday, 27th October, 2017. Please book an appointment with a tutor as soon as possible.
  • The deadline to meet for the Spring Semester May-June exams is Friday, 2nd March, 2018.
  • The deadline for the August exams is Friday, 6th July, 2018.

All requests for adjustments to examination arrangements must be supported by evidence:

  • for Specific Learning Differences (e.g. dyslexia, dyspraxia) please provide current evidence e.g. a written report from an Educational Psychologist or a Specialist Teacher. 

In 2013, two tutors from Academic Support - Dr. Kim Lawson and Dr. Lisa Rüll - were successful individual Lord Dearing Award winners. This award recognises outstanding achievement in enhancing the student learning experience.  This is the team's third Dearing Award; in 2006 Academic Support (which then included Disability Support) won as a team.  Over recent years, there have been four other nominations for individual awards.
