Our Staff Sport programme has been designed for members of staff and postgraduate students with the aim of providing a variety of opportunities to stay active, keep healthy and enjoy the facilities we have on offer at University of Nottingham Sport.

Staff Sport at University of Nottingham

University of Nottingham Sport offers a wide range of opportunities for members of staff, associates and postgraduate students to keep fit, have fun and meet new people.

Whether taking part in one of our sports sessions, joining staff sport clubs or participating in one of our events - there really is something for everyone!

Badminton

Our badminton sessions are a heedy mix of fun and competition.

We host a series of open-courts at David Ross Sports Village for you to take advantage of. Sessions are free for members or £3 for non-members.

Pre-booking is optional and you can secure a session 3 days in advance.

Climbing

Climbing is a fantastic physical and mental challenge. No prior experience is necessary and our staff climbing sessions will help you develop climbing skills and knowledge of climbing. Led by our highly qualified coaches our sessions will take you through the basic steps.

Netball

Our Netball sessions are fun, social and a great way to meet people from around the University.

Taking place on our outdoor courts, the session will be casual, relaxed and provide a mix of skills and game-play.

Pre-booking is optional and you can register for a session 3 days in advance.

Social Runs

Suitable for both beginners and more experienced runners alike, our lunchtime social runs (around 4-ish miles) will led by Gaby Neher, Associate Professor in the Faculty of Arts. These runs will give you the opportunity to explore campuses and meet other runners in a social and relaxed environment.

There's no need to sign up, just meet Gaby outside the relevant Sports Centre Reception around 5 minutes before the run is due to start.

Runs will rotate between University Park Campus and Jubilee Campus:
University Park - 26/10, 09/11, 23/11, 07/12
Jubilee - 02/11, 16/11, 30/11, 14/12

Squash Coaching

Throughout the month of November, on Thursdays from 6.45-7.45pm, we will be offering Squash Coaching to staff at the University of Nottingham.

Sessions will cost £5 per week and you must book in advance. Bookings will open 7 days in advance, and can made online or over the phone.

Online - log in to your account > select 'Make a Booking' > Sports Centre = David Ross SV > Category = Just Play Bookings > Activities = Just Play Staff Squash (Coaching) > Find the relevant date and add to your basket.

Squash

Our squash club is open to staff, postgraduate students, graduates of the University of Nottingham and associate members of the sports facilities. Membership of the Squash Club is currently £10 per annum and you must have UoN Sport and Fitness membership for access to the courts.

Social and competitive squash is organised for players of all standards. The internal leagues are run throughout the year and there is an annual knockout tournament and several social evenings where various competitions are held.

There is a Club Night every Sunday between 6pm and 8pm (see the timetable above) when both members and non-members are welcome to come along and play. Members will be admitted for free whilst non-members will pay a fee of £3 (payable online or at Reception upon arrival).

Tai chi, is a noncompetitive, self-paced system of gentle physical exercise and stretching. Each posture flows into the next without pause, ensuring that your body is in constant motion.

Our free online sessions are delivered through a private zoom call and involve a series of movements performed in a slow, focused manner and accompanied by deep breathing. Pre booking is essential.

Our staff sports and fitness memberships offer excellent value for money here at the University of Nottingham as well as the convenience of being based on the same campus as your workplace.

If you are a new permanent employee at the University of Nottingham, you are entitled to a free 30-day trial of our staff sport and fitness membership. For more details please contact our Membership Officer via email or on 0115 74 86213.

Please note, all free trials must be activated within 30 days of your employment start date and do not currently include access to Kings Meadow campus.

Frequently asked questions

Pre-booking is optional and you will be able to sign up at Reception on the night. If you would like to pre-book, you'll be able to book five days before the session is due to take place. 

Sessions are free for UoN Sport and Fitness members. For non-members, sessions are £3 although some are priced differently. Please check online for details of specific sessions.
