NEW - pre-booking required for all Engage sessions

Due to restrictions put in place due to Coronavirus, all attendees (members and non-members will now be required to book onto all Engage sessions in advance. Bookings will open five days before the session is due to take place.

No bookings will be taken at our sport centre receptions, all sessions must be booked online.

Non-members
  • Register for a Pay As You Go (PAYG) account online.
  • Once registered, you will need to return a signed copy of our Health Commitment Statement (HCS) to our Reception Team. You must do this before you will be able to pre-book any activities online. 
    Please note - you can either print a copy yourself, sign it and take it to one of our sport centre receptions or you can pick up a copy from the reception and sign it there and then. This can be done at anytime but our facilities are usually much quieter before 3pm.  
  • Once your HCS has been received by our reception team, you'll be able to pre-book onto an activity using the links in the timetable below. Bookings will open five days before the session is due to take place and the sessions will be available under the 'Engage' category.
  • Payment will be required at the time of booking. Should you need to cancel or rearrange a booking please contact our Reception team either in person or over the phone to ensure payment is transferred to the new booking. Please note - credit notes and refunds cannot be processed online at this time.
  • Once payment has been made, the booking will be loaded onto your student card, and you'll be able to swipe at the turnstile and head straight to your chosen activity. For sessions at David Ross Sports Village, have a read through our access information below to ensure a smooth transition into the building. Please ensure you follow our guidelines ahead of and during your visit to help us keep all our staff and customers safe.

Access at David Ross Sports Village (ONLY)

Access for Engage sessions will be via the General Members (snake 1) section which is outside the Clubhouse. There will be members of staff on hand to assist you with accessing the building. Please follow the below key points:

  • Wear your face covering whilst in the queue (with the exception of those with an exemption) and get your ID/membership card ready.
  • Ensure you are queuing in a social distanced manner (1m+ if wearing a face covering).
  • Attendance will be permitted no more than five minutes before the session start time so do plan your arrival time accordingly.
  • When instructed to enter the building, use turnstile 1 (if you need to interact with a Receptionist), or turnstiles 2, 3 and 4 if you can just swipe and enter.

Please note that this is just for access at David Ross Sports Village and as mentioned above, there will be members of staff on hand to assist you.

Engage Timetable - w/c Monday 5 October

Our Engage programme offers a flexible way for undergraduate and postgraduate students to try out new sports and meet new friends in a fun and friendly environment. Sessions are open to all regardless of skill or ability and with a wide range of sports to choose from, there really is something for everyone!

You can attend as many sessions as you wish, with no weekly commitment to attend and no requirement to purchase a UoN sport and fitness or club membership. Pre-booking is essential and bookings can be made up to 5 days before a session is due to take place. Bookings can be made online here. If you experience any difficulties, please contact our Engage Team.

The FAQ's below are specific to our Engage programme but should you query remain unanswered, please email our dedicated team who will be more than happy to help. 

Can I just turn up to an Engage session?
All attendees are required to pre-book ahead of their visit. Information on how to set up a PAYG account and register for your chosen sessions is listed above. Bookings for each session will open five days before the session is due to take place. 
 
How much does it cost to attend an Engage session?
Most of our sessions are £3 although some are priced differently. Please check the timetable for details of specific sessions.
 
Do I need to have sports membership to attend Engage sessions? 
No - however, UoN sport and fitness members can attend all sessions on University Park Campus, Jubilee Campus or Sutton Bonington Campus for free so it may be worth considering purchasing a sports membership. This will give you access to use all of our facilities, including the pool and fitness suites.
 
Does it matter if I have never played the sport before?
If you are a complete beginner to a sport, then we recommend you choose one of our coached sessions as these are designed for those who have never played before. A friendly instructor will show you the basics and then you'll get chance to try out your new skills. 
 
What if I can't attend the session every week?
Not a problem - Engage sessions are designed with busy students in mind and it doesn't matter if you miss a session. Don't forget though, the more you attend the bigger the health and wellbeing benefits!
 
Can I go to more than one Engage session?
Yes, you can attend as many Engage sessions as you can fit in! The programme is designed to help students try as many sports as possible to find the ones they enjoy the most.
 
What should I wear to an Engage session?
Wear comfortable sports clothing and suitable footwear. If the session is outdoors, warm/waterproof clothing is recommended.
 
Do I need to bring my own equipment?
All equipment will be provided! Make sure you are suitably dressed, have water to keep yourself hydrated and have pre-registered for your chosen session. We recommend bringing sanitiser with you although this will be available at various locations on site at each of our facilities. 
 
I'm a staff member at the University of Nottingham - can I join an Engage session?
Staff members are welcome to join Engage sessions, but the University of Nottingham runs a programme of sport designed for staff which may be more suitable. Visit our staff sport webpage for more information.
