Official Documents and Letters

During and after your studies you may be required to obtain official documents from the University of Nottingham. Whether it's for Council Tax exemption or you're applying for a visa, we can help. You can request a variety of documents from the Student Services Centres or, if you already know what you're looking for, use the 'Quick Links' to apply online.

Bank Letters

When opening a student bank account in the UK, you may be asked to provide proof that you are a student at the University of Nottingham.

Included on this document will be your home and term time address taken from your student record. Please check your details are up to date on the student portal before requesting this document.

Please use one of the online forms below or visit any of the Student Services Centres to request this document.

 

Confirmation of Degree 

Once you have graduated from the University of Nottingham, you may be required to provide evidence of your degree. We can produce a degree confirmation letter that will prove that you have studied here and verify your degree result.

To request this document, you can apply online, or visit one of the Student Services Centres.

 

Confirmation of Student Status

During your time at the University, you may need to confirm your status as a current student here. A confirmation of student status letter will verify:

  • your course details and start date
  • your tuition fee liability
  • your expected completion date
  • your graduation date (if applicable)

Council Tax Exemption 

Whilst you are a full time student at the University of Nottingham*, you do not need to pay Council Tax.

If you live in one of the following areas the Student Services Centres will automatically inform your Council that you are a full time student:

  • Broxtowe Borough Council
  • Erewash Borough Council
  • Gedling Borough Council
  • North West Leicestershire District Council
  • Nottingham City Council
  • Rushcliffe Borough Council

Please note that if you live in one of these areas, you do not need to request a Council Tax exemption document, as we will contact the Council for you.

If you receive a request for payment of Council Tax, and you live in one of these areas, notify your Council in writing that you are a student here and that your name appears on the University's listing. They should then be able to deal with your problem quickly. However, if after notifying them, you still experience difficulties please bring a copy of your bill to any Student Services Centre, where a member of staff will assist you.

If you live outside of the above areas then you do need to request a council tax exemption certificate. You can use one of the online forms below or visit any of the Student Services Centres.

Duplicate Degree Certificates and Diploma Supplements

When you graduate from the University of Nottingham you receive a degree certificate and diploma supplements. If you wish to request additional copies of these documents, please visit the Academic Services Division web pages.

  

Transcripts

There are two different types of transcripts: graduate transcripts and provisional transcripts.

Graduate transcripts :

Graduate transcripts confirm your final degree classification, along with a list of the modules you studied and the marks obtained.  

You can request a graduate transcript by applying online (see forms below), or visiting any of the Student Services Centres.

Transcripts cost £10 for the first copy and £5 for each additional copy.

Provisional transcripts :

Provisional transcripts can be requested if you are currently a student at the University of Nottingham and want to request proof of the results you have obtained so far.

You can request a provisional transcript by applying online (see forms below) or visiting any of the Student Services Centres.  You are able to request a maximum of five free transcripts.  We reserve the right to charge you for any transcripts in excess of these five.

Verification Requests 

If you have provided information to an organisation to confirm that you are currently a student at the University of Nottingham, or that you have graduated, then they may contact us to verify this information. If they wish to do so, please ask the organisation to use the online form below.

Please note that we no longer accept fax requests.

  

Visa documents

While you are a student here, you may need documentation for visa purposes. There are two different types of visa documents that you can request from the Student Services Centres: CAS (for tier 4 student visas) and post study work visa letters.
